Not in any checklist I have. Is this baseball and when did he play? Do you have one to post?

I just checked my Baseball Encyclopedia and there is no listing for an Owen Patton, nor any ballplayer named Patton who played in the late 1880's.

He played for Minneapolis and Des Moines. Not sure of exact years. He is listed on the N172 checklist and I've been told he had eight different poses. I know he's not shown as having a cabinet but, I have one. I am brand new to this and only have the one card that was left to me by a friend when he died. So any info is a help. I do know it is Owen Patton. Thanks

Sounds like he moved up to the high minor leagues but never played in the majors. Keep in mind Old Judge cabinets had to be ordered, so the chance that someone ordered a minor leaguer and it survived is remote (although possible).

Owen Patton is player 362 on the WTI checklist. He does indeed have eight poses listed, but none known in a cabinet. It would be special only if it is a previously unknown ninth pose.

Owen Patton has 6 different N172 poses and is not listed as having been found on an N173. That does not mean that one does not exist; N173 cataloging has been a neglected area. All 1888 cards list him with Minneapolis; all 1889 cards with Des Moines.

Nancy--Could you please post an image of the cabinet and we will add it to the catalog.

She sent me an unsolicited scan. It was not a familiar pose, but I haven't seen them all either.

Tom--I couldn't open the file that Nancy sent but Barry forwarded me his which for some reason I could open. Pose is the bat at ready behind head pose and it is known as an N172.

Depending on condition of the cabinet I would think 1K to 2500 would be the price range on it. Not sure what the premium is on it for being newly discovered and not on a checklist yet? I do know Nancy will be buying a new fishing pole with bait if she decides to sell it.

Jim, that price might be a bit on the high side. Most N173s are very scarce, I'd say every 3rd one to market (from outside the hobby) is an unchecklisted N173 pose. The average cabinet price in decent condition is around $1000 - $1500. This based on prices realized on eBay and the many NY beauties that went for a great price in Mastro. Now if it's a colored mount or Dog Heads example, than multiply a couple times.

FWIW, I have no interest in the cabinet. My advice to Nancy would be to auction it.

Best Regards,
Joe Gonsowski

I agree with Joe G. on his prices. Even if not cataloged, probably not rare, some show up sometimes. Of course I am looking for Detroit Cabinets all the time.

FWIW, here is a previously unchecklisted N173, graded, that just ended last night for $455 (great deal for someone).

Hey Nancy, Leon's thread for "1889 Old Judge Cabinet Checklist" has Owen Patton listed as a player for Des Moines.

Proff enough for me that at least one was ordered. Now if I could just find the team roster.

FYI the scan of this was taken from a picture of the card. My local card shop dealer wanted a copy for research, I sure wasn't ging to leave the card with him, so I went to the local Wal Mart and had the card scanned and enlarged. That is probably why it appears black and white. Hope this answers that question.
Thanks
Nancy
