The card looks nice, but what's the deal?

The buyer states the creasing on the card and that is the knock against it. The creases must be severe and the scan does not show them. Which I am sure the seller did on prupose.

I can see a pretty good sized "ding" in the middle of the right border.

if you look to the bottom right of the reverse.. you can actually see a large crease starting to the right of the y in "quality" leading down to the bottom of the card.. when you look again at the front of the card you can see it showing through.. while its a nice example of a low grade matty.. its too rich for my blood in that condition..

what we might have here is a buyer throwing up a large bid with the hope that no one does the same thing...but someone else has the same idea. thus a whopping $$$ for the seller. http://search-completed.ebay.com/search/search.dll?sofocus=bs&sbrftog=1&catref=C6&from=R10&satitle=-reprint+mathewson+gai+2.5&sacat=31717%26catref%3DC6&sargn=-1%26saslc%3D2&sadis=200&fpos=60102&fis=2&ftrt=1&ftrv=1&saprclo=&saprchi=&fsop=3%26fsoo%3D2&fgtp= funny how it shows it ending at $260 but if you click the item it's at $960. can anyone explain this?

Dennis, many search programs don't go after a huge database to find information. They utilize what are called index files to find desired items quickly. These files are keyed (or sorted) by things such as sellerID. These files are not updated "real time" but maybe every couple of hours, sometimes days.

Why would seller state GAI is the "toughest in the business" aren't they the easier of the big three?

Then how does one explain the bid history? If it really ended at $260, I could understand it, but I have no idea what someone would be thinking to spend this much (over $900) on a Gd-Vg card. Strange indeed.

I agree with all, on all.

But to answer your original question (on final price and restating Dennis' point): Both high bids were snipes. So you have two guys thinking "This cards going to go for about X (X = $250 + ??). I'm gonna put in a snipe of 2X. No one in their 'right mind' will go anywhere that high.* So, I don't have to worry; I'm gonna win; I might even get lucky and get a good deal."

* Well, they were wrong ......

((( I did it once, long ago, and ended up paying 200 for a 50-75 card. Then had the other dumb sniper contact me and offered 100 for it !!! Live and Learn )))
