This is a Gimbel's Dept. Store in Philadelphia in 1910 - look closely in the windows and you see a bunch of pictures of Athletics and Cubs. Must have been around the World Series.

Hi Brock, I have a Lexmark scanner and use their All In One Center...I don't really use the zoom, I just cut and paste an area I want to focus on and it automatically "zooms" in on it.

This is the best thread i seen on this site. i live in nyc. I always love to see old store signs or old stuff in brroklyn on the building of what use to be there. Such as ebbets field. it is a big apartment complex now. But rumor has it that is is still the original wall from stadium hard to tell if it is. Also around block from ebbets field you can tell they had i guess it was a diner type place were you rode car and looks like they came out and served you. Along rest of empire blvd you can tell it looked like large store fronts. would of loved to be around in those days. Not sure if it has to do with this thread but figured i would share it. Thanks enjoy rest of the week.

Great photo Joe...I think it may be Clint's but I'm not sure. Have any of those D&M Standups ever shown up on the market? It looks like there may be one with Napoleon Lajoie on it? Wonder what that would bring in an REA type auction?

Hey Brock, in the third photo down on the Salem Rubber company photos I believe that to be Lajoie because of the "C" on the uniform and in a righthanders batting stance.

Clint - those are two of my favorite photos. How cool is that mini stadium diorama!!!!

Thanks Dan. I'm hoping that one day somebody will show up that diorama boxed up with all the pieces at my local card shop. Stranger things have happened. I've never seen many of the pieces in the D&M photo and my photo. I have seen the one with the Lucky Dog but not the Lajoie. I wondered if the one in the top of my photo was Cobb.

Here's another photo I've shown before. It's not a storefront but the Draper factory before Maynard joined.

This is really a neat thread. I’d have never thought of store front photos here on Net54. I’ve seen photos over the years of store fronts with sports windows, but never gave them that much thought. I’ll be keeping an eye out for them now though.

My favorite photos so far are the tennis window of Dan’s, and the Goldsmith’s window of Clint’s, but they’re all good, the D&M one is cool too.

I don’t have any photos but I did pick up the bronze plaque over last winter at a show in Los Angeles, or Glendale actually. It’s 22” tall x 17” wide, and the bronze part is 15 ” diameter. The inscription around the edge says: “The Sporting Goods Dealer Trophy 1929”. The award engraving below is made out to: “National Baseball Week - Window Trimming Contest - Won By - Nat Wylie, Steel Howe Company, Wichita, Kansas”

It’s signed by the sculptor Jack Lincoln Lambert, who did many sports statues and plaques for different companies, like Dieges and Clust, and Josten’s Jewelers. I found this plaque in my Josten’s Jewelers catalog

When I got this I was only thinking of it in terms of it’s art quality. But then I showed it to Paul Referson, and he pointed out the window trimming aspect, that he’d seen photos like we’re sharing here and expressed amazement of it from that vantage, which I’d never stop to think of.

Clint, Thanks, hey can you take a close in of the stadium/ball field part of the photo? That's so cool! I wonder what the players are made of. I recall seeing a larger version of a ball field scene like that in Cypress' museum.

That pair of MINT Reeded Shin Guards behind the right field fence has my mouth watering! Seems like hardly any of these survived, and those that did are beaten to submission.
