Default Red Murray, Old Mill, Brown non-SLer? HERE'S MY WALLET TAKE IT ALL.

I can understand the draw on this card but the price is insane for ungraded, and quite honestly unsure. Faded black possible?

......the fast and furious bidding at the end is the best part. It isn't 2 snipers that were misfortunate and both threw a huge bet at the end.....there was a good 20 seconds of jockeying.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/271440958478...84.m1435.l2649

Please, someone try and explain this to me.....because that seems like a gamble.

I don't think it was that bidders think it's brown. I think perhaps the top bidders feel it's a Murr'y. Appears as if it could be, at least to my untrained eye.

Nah, it had nothing to do with the back.

Someone wanted it because of the front caption/name.

I've got 70 year old eyesight on an iPad and the peeling is obvious. Buyer will be disappointed.

The only thing that stands out to me is that 1"+ crease on the back and "no creases" in the description.

There did look like there was some peeling, but, as many know on this board, it is a known error/variation - though not recognized. It would be the "Murr'y" error variation if it checks out. Personally, I think it is an example of the variation, and that there actually isnt any paper loss on the front - and that it just appeared like it in the scan, but could of course be wrong. Regardless, I bid on it high as well, with the safety that he said it was "creaseless", yet had 3 creases.

Judging by the direction of the "apostrophe" I think there was peeling by the A. I do not think this was an error. Hopefully the buyer is a board member so we can figure out the truth.

The apostrophe on my MURR'Y seems to match the card in question.

But I do think there appears to be some paper loss around the "A".

Maybe, but if you zoom as much as possible, part of the R is missing as well, and the amount that was missing was consistent with the other known examples. To me, I didn't feel the intent to deceive was, or even could have been there. At that point, I don't see why he would describe it as a card with no creases, if attempting to scam. The peeling of the paper would have had to be done intentionally, and to me, it just didnt add up. Obviously, this could easily be wrong. I mean, we're looking at a picture of decent resolution.

Your card appears to have a straight up and down apostrophe. The eBay card appears to have a mark that is slanted down and to the right.

I don't think it appears to be an attempt at decrypt.

I've handled a few of these Murr'y examples over the years. The card in question is 100% legit.

The print breaks in the "M", "R" and in the bottom right corner of the "N" are consistent with a real Murr'y variation.

Edited to add: The last minute of bidding was pretty intense. I was the third under bidder.

Interesting... All the murr'ys posted in this thread have the same spot next
to the NY logo including the one in question. I think its legit. I did a quick
check of the Murrays on ebay and none of them have it.

I agree, the print dot by the NY seems very consistent with all the other examples. But Im not sure. Does anybody know what confirmed variations of these go for ?

Thanks Shawn and Robert. I would think there could be some murrays with the dot that were printed before the obstruction of the A. But IMO all the
legit Murr'ys should have this dot.

Good catch on the dot. I checked my two Murrays, Piedmont and EPDG, and neither has a dot.

Interesting...
