Default T206 (Missing Color)

I would like to see your T206 cards missing color (ink) and your thoughts.

Konetchy arrived in the mail today missing some color. You can barely tell that the ST. LOUIS on his uniform is there. I put two cards side by side for comparison.

Default Anderson faint P

What's your take on this Anderson card that arrived a few days ago.

The P is faint along with black lines on his uniform; did it miss a pass?

With the back damage, there will always be questions of whether an adhesive caused the color to fade/eliminate/deminish. Still, I like it.

Since the subject came up, my McGinnity is in the next H&S auction along with a "regular" SGC 50. Tried twice to get SGC to slab it with the notation, but I was a big loser:

ok. interesting....and a very very good catch. i will have to check that when i get home.

on a side note....not sure what is so alluring about missing ink which pretty much only shows the background color different. i don't really have any desire to collect them.

im more interested in missing colors that make the uniform look generic

Kevin I agree somewhat. I prefer a card where the letter on the uniform is missing rather than the entire background, though I collect both. That's why I like the Beaumont and Sweeney best, and also the Bowerman that Chris had.

I have a question regarding the Plank missing color: I always assumed that the light blue Plank occured because the printer ran out of blue ink, and that on the next sheet the white Plank was printed. Now I wonder if that is really what happened, because the light blue has a Sweet Cap back, but the white has a Piedmont back.
Could they still have been printed at the same time? Or would these error cards necessarily have occurred at different times? In that case what are the odds that the printers could have run out of blue ink twice at unrelated times while printing Plank, considering that so few Planks were ever produced at all?
I don't know much about the printing process, so maybe some of you who have studied this can help me. Thanks

I don't believe the "light blue" plank is from running out of ink. It received the light blue pass, but is missing the dark blue pass. The SC version may also different from the Piedmont with the "buff" color pass (although tough to tell in some scans). The SC appears to be missing it, while the Piedmont may have it.

Note this Bell card with the light blue and dark blue in the sky; light blue and dark blue are two different/distinct colors:

And notice that the dark blue pass on this Arndt is skewed right, with shows the light blue pass underneath:

Nice Arndt Erick, with that printer line!

I have an Arndt with a printer line, where the top layer blue misses low, so there is a line of light blue going across the top

Here is Beaumont. I like this one because the "B" on the uniform is missing, not just the background color. Beaumont and Bowerman are the only Boston players pictured in this uniform with the blue collar. I noticed that you have a Bowerman also missing color. I'd like to get one as well, because it goes well with Beaumont.

Nice Kleinow Ron, but it seems wrong to call him "Red" on that missing color card.

Funny you mention that. I was telling a more modern card collector that I got a T206 Red Kleinow with no red on it and he thought it was missing the first name . I guess I can understand the confusion.

Default Question for the experts...

I don't think this one is missing color, but just in case... I was scanning these two cards side by side and noticed the one on the right has more brownish hues, noticeable in the cheekbone, the jersey folds, and the mitt. Just a slight variation in printing or missing ink? Thoughts??

I know it has been discussed many times that almost all cards that are missing color and have back damage are suspect and I agree but I'm
not sure the back damage is the cause of the missing color on this Evers.
Any opinions on this one (not my card).

Pat, it looks to me like the colors faded. They're all lighter.
