Default REA lot 166 Red Hindu Mystery?

I was perusing my REA catalog while in the tub last night...and I noticed that the Walter Johnson w/Red Hindu back...has had a mark removed from the back...which is/was not noticeable on the web site but is pretty clear in the catalog.

I have owned three red hindu's in my day...2 of which had a 7-c marked on the back in what appears to be a wax pencil or crayon. I believe Jeff L has the Chase...which I sold a few years ago.

I purchased my 2 red hindu's in an auction in silver spring, MD in the early nineties...of which there was a 3rd...elberfield fielding.

I have never seen the same 7-c mark on any other t-cards...besides the 3 red hindu's at the auction in MD...and now the Johnson that just sold in REA. Does anyone have any insight what this 7-c may mean...or has anyone seen any other cards with this mark on the back?

AAAAAAH! We've got to live with that picture the rest of the day?

Someone else post something. Quick!

In the REA "Addendum" to the online lot description, he seems to believe it is "FC", though he does not say what it stands for (if he knows)...

Well, of course you did. Unless you were looking at the auction using a waterproof laptop!

Hi Peter,
I called Rob about the "FC" or "7C" on the Johnson, as I have several Brown Hindu's with the same marking. I'll post some pictures when I get home later. Be well Brian

PS I think the original collection included 5-6 Red Hindu's and 15-20 Brown Hindu's....

Frank Chance makes more sense than the other 2...but I love the idea that Frank Costanza may have owned them too!

Here are the pictures.... I still don't know if they are F's or crossed 7's, but the more ornate Fc's in pen seem to suggest they are F's...

I hope to have more later.
Be well Brian

that last one's interesting, Brian. It looks like the larger FC was erased...or removed mostly...then written smaller up top. Cool...I've never seen this other style of FC...in smaller letters.

So have any non Hindu cards been found with these initials?

Hi Peter,
I have quite a few different brands with FE on them, but I haven't seen any FC's on anything other than Hindu... Here is picture of a lot I purchased:

Default Salivating...

Brian - That is sweet sight, indeed....

Can we play guess a card ? If we guess the player on the front, you fork over the Hindu ??

Seriously, Nice lot... Did you bump into that on Tobacco Road ?

Hope all is well,

Jeremy

Hi Peter,
I have a scan from an auction in the mid to late 90's that includes both Red and Brown Hindu "FC'S".... But I can't find the damn thing...
I'm sure I'll run across it in a few months...

Be well Brian
