Default Recent 1891 Football CDV pickup

Posted By: Keith

I picked up this CDV recently on ebay and figured I would share. It is an 1891 Trinity College CDV showing 2 players holding a football. The back has the 2 players ID'd and 1 of the players signed the bottom with an inscription. The inscription is my favorite part as it reads: Presented to Miss Edith Ward from her latest conquest, the freshman Richard Harry Mccauley. So I guess this was the 19th century version of giving your girlfriend your lettered jacket/sweater.

Really nice image! Thanks for sharing! That's the latest Cdv I remember seeing. Even 1880's Cdvs are very late.

It is a pretty late one, but curiously the only other Football CDV I have is a from 2 years later; this 1893 Doane College CDV. When I first got it I thought it was from the late 1880's but I later purchased a dated cabinet photo from the same seller with the same players in the photo and it was dated 1893. Here is that photo.
