Default Score at the city dump!!!!! Show us your Dixie lids

I went to dump to recycle some old appliances and this vintage porcelain beauty was just sitting there in the scrap heap. It was filthy but cleaned up well and looks cool in my workshop nook.

I don't own any Dixie Lids, but that may change soon. In meantime, let's see 'em!

Wow, cool sheet. So did these get printed with different ad backs, like tobacco cards? How many different backs are there?

Very cool sign! Would be a nice display companion to some matching lids.

That uncut sheet is amazing! Ice cream free too.

Conor, Great score!

I just had a thought that gave me an "I'm old" moment. Has anyone here under 30 (ish?) ever eaten ice cream out of a "dixie" cup?

They still sell cheap vanilla cups like that at Costco... 50 of them for $8 or something.

Here's a set of Dixie Cup Lids from 1950 that still have the onion skin covers on them to protect them from the ice cream. These were never actually used. The backs have an ad for Nelson's Cloverland Creamery.

If you have kids, I can almost guarantee you'll have them or see them at a birthday party some day.

Wow. That sign is a beauty. I bet the American Pickers would be all over it.

Nice pick-up. I don't have a television, but is there a reality show for people who dig around in dumps and other people's garbage cans?

Sort of. There's a show on History channel called American Pickers. They show up at people's places that have collected years of junk, and they pick out things they can resell in their shop. They are often interested in advertising signs. Especially the old signs like the OP found at the dump.

Maybe you should come with me then. Plenty of TVs at the dump.

No Sunfreze lids, huh? Are they more scarce than others?
