Default Gehrig Homerun Baseball ???

So i bought this 1928 New York Yankees team signed baseball signed by Ruth, gehrig, etc. But on one side it has writing that looks to say "Gehrig's 29th homer 6-22-28 and two words that are probably the teams. But Gehrig didn't hit 29 homeruns in 1928 and the Yankees never played on June 22nd 1928. I looked at Gehrig's homeruns and it wasn't till 1931 he hit a homerun on 6/22. I did see Gehrig hit his 29th career homerun on 7/22/1926. The baseball is a 1925-27 model.

So what do you guys make of it?? It could have been a homerun and they messed up every single detail on it or it was wrote after the fact and they never fact checked.

Well, it sounds like you were completely lost when you purchased this thing, and that you still are. Not much to do at this point but joke about it.

Toss it to Pickles and move on.

So now people can't ask questions on this board. Love how you think you're the police of net54. And I wasnt lost when I bought it. I knew the details were messed up on it. But I knew it was still a 1928 yankees team signed baseball from a year they won the championship.

And once again I'm done replying to you. Have a good one, no need to reply back because I'm sure your comment will be useless. Thanks

Here's a better picture of the number. I thought it might have been a 24 also but looks like 29.

Are you enjoying your conversation with your straw man? I wasn't being a policeman - I was laughing at you. As long as you continue to entertain, I will continue to respond.

(By the way - "once again not replying" to me can only be done...once.)

Looks like 24 to me and the year 1923, he did hit 24 homers that year (in the minors).

It may be a coincidence, but on June 22, 1927, the Yankees played a double header in Boston. In the first game, Babe Ruth hit 2 homers, the second one was his 24th of the season. This would be consistent with the information I am seeing on the ball.

On 6/22/27 Ruth hit H.R.'s 23 and 24 against the Red Sox....Looks like the ball could be Ruth's 24th HR Ball?

Not meaning to pile on but it does look like 24 and 6/22/27. But any chance it is 6/29/27? That is the date Gehrig hit his 24th in 1927.

Here's a little closer view, probably the best my camera can get. I tried putting it under a black light but no luck.

Looks like 6-22-23 and 29th to me. And perhaps Im wrong but the numbers in question here appear "brighter" than some of the other wording so maybe retraced in error at some point??

Michael,
You do have a point, probably was retraced at some point. I'd think if someone more modern wanted to add it/fake the inscription to add more value to the baseball, I think they'd actually pick a day that gehrig hit a homerun. lol

Guess we'll never know the true story behind it. Thanks

You know what Scott, I give up. You win ok. You have ruined this forum and hobby for me. I can't even post on this board without you harassing or making a stupid ass comment to me. Now I can't even list something for sale without it being posted all over the board!!!

Brock - I have removed my last post, and my original response here.

This is my one and only gesture of reconciliation. Say whatever you want in future posts - just don't call me names. Stick to that and I don't think you'll have any future complaints about me. I really do not want anyone to not enjoy this hobby, my fault or otherwise.

I thnk it's very likely that the ball was dated incorrectly at a later date. The ink kind of tells the tale on that one. I have had a few balls that were this exact case. One that sticks in my mind is a Ty Cobb single signed, the original owner dated it with the date Cobb passed away, a week or so afterwards. He was young, a teenager or so, and was off on the date by a couple days. He never realized it until many decades later. Unfortunately, we will probably never have a definitive answer on this one, or he could have just been noting that he hit a homer at that game, not that the ball was the actual homerun ball. Still a really interesting ball, and it looks like the Ruth is authentic and not clubhouse so definitely still value there.
Best,
Jeff

The right angle at lower left corner on the (4,9) would indicate to me it is 24th. Can't make out the other details, but, do the facts check if it is 24th HR?
