James Buchannan went to my college -- Dickinson College, Carlisle, PA.

I have a theory on the origination of the term "86-ing" something. Obviously it refers to terminating or throwing something out. My theory is it came from the Adventure Gum Series (R338) Schmeling card with the swastika. This card generated so much trouble it was pulled from the seires. In other words it was terminated or thrown out. The Schmeling card is No. 86.

Damian, how's this for a crappy music video?

Barry, I'll have to come up with more obscure quotes. It was indeed the episode you mentioned.

So since this thread is anything goes im gonna take advantage of it and ask if anyone has any ticket stubs for games where Mickey Mantle hit a home run. My dads birthday is on fathers day this year, hes a huge Mantle fan and im thinking of having a framed picture made with maybe 4 ticket stubs with the info of the HR underneathe it and then a picture of Mantle swinging in the middle. Any help in the next 4 months and 17 days would be appreciated!

I hope this isnt what shuts the thread down

Somewhat appropriate for this thread, I guess, from the man who provided the Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television

New Rule: If you need to shave and you still collect baseball cards,
you're a dope. If you're a kid, the cards are keepsakes of your idols.
If you're a grown man, they're pictures of men.

I edited 1-2 posts for profanity and the bird flipping. I really have to do that. I have a major issue with me editing a post and only do it on extreme issues....I think we are ok now but you guys and girls need to keep the profanity, gay references, and flipping of the bird to nil....otherwise, most stuff is fair game. And Jay B- very nice restraint here....you are to be commended....Also, for the record I would appreciate it if we ALL are a little more careful not to hijack good threads...unless it's one from Bruce ....(just kidding)....Jim does make a good point on that issue... regards all

Leon, does anyone ever call you LL Cool J? I knew someone with the initials LL and everyone called him Bean,i assumed it was for LL Bean but it was because he always ate beans, true story. Reminds me of when Scott posted here and i assumed his name was Runscott because his last name was Forrest and he was from the south,so people were saying Run forrest run to him.Turns out he just liked to run alot and no one ever said that to him, also a true story

Dan, before this thread dies you have to at least make up for the transgression you committed by putting a post-plane crash video of Skynyrd on here. Please provide us with the appropriate band clip and while there won't be any money in it for you, when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness. So, you got that going for you. Which is nice.

I like the Lanny Poffo reference.Im sure Leon would like to be associated with a man who went by the name of Genius for awhile ( misspelled Genins on some of his wrestling cards i believe)

Well, Lanny Poffo was also a professional baseball player before he found his true calling.

Scratch that -- it was The Genius's brother, Randy Poffo, who had the brief baseball career before becoming macho.

Jeff, I'm not sure why Cat thinks that video is post crash Skynyrd because it's from 1974....Hell the lead singer even says this is the new single off our new album.

But just because I want to make sure my Karma stays kochure here's another one.

Oh and I almost forgot...Gunga galunga... gunga, gunga-galunga.

And that's all she wrote!

Mike,

Your not old...what's old is the continuing saga of when Barry Bonds will eventually sign this year's contract...does anybody remember the last time a team and an athlete had a done deal...and the details took a couple of months to complete.

I think it's hilarious that the Giants had to add in a stipulation that Bonds's athletic trainers are not to be allowed into the lockerroom. It will also be interesting to see the interaction between Bonds and Sweeney -Is Sweeney even still with the Giants???

Let's not forget that with all our differences, we have unity on this board because we are all passionate about the same thing: killing babies.

Let's quit all the name-calling and drug infested punk rocker posts and get back to sharing about what brings us together.

And let's stop calling Jim homophobic. It's clear that's he has nothing against hot man-on-man action as long as they don't get married!

Dan,

Sweeney is still with the Giants, now all they need is 4-5 decent relievers and they will be a playoff contender.

It's going to be interesting to see how MLB "celebrates" Barry's breaking of the HR record.

How come we dont sing the original lyrics to "Take me out to the Ballgame" at the games? The song is actually alot longer as seen below...

Katie Casey was base ball mad.
Had the fever and had it bad;
Just to root for the home town crew,
Ev'ry sou Katie blew.
On a Saturday, he young beau
Called to see if she'd like to go,
To see a show but Miss Kate said,
"No, I'll tell you what you can do."

"Take me out to the ball game,
Take me out with the crowd.
Buy me some peanuts and cracker jack,
I don't care if I never get back,
Let me root, root, root for the home team,
If they don't win it's a shame.
For it's one, two, three strikes, you're out,
At the old ball game."

Katie Casey saw all the games,
Knew the players by their first names;
Told the umpire he was wrong,
All along good and strong.
When the score was just two to two,
Katie Casey knew what to do,
Just to cheer up the boys she knew,
She made the gang sing this song:

"Take me out to the ball game,
Take me out with the crowd.
Buy me some peanuts and cracker jack,
I don't care if I never get back,
Let me root, root, root for the home team,
If they don't win it's a shame.
For it's one, two, three strikes, your out,
At the old ball game."

Im going to go watch Ken Burns baseball,3rd inning, right now. I expect everyone to know the lyrics by the time i get back

Jim, after reading through your responses on this thread, don't bother emailing me about the proposed collector's organization. I'd rather not be involved with someone with your immense ego and particular political views of the world, even if our views on the hobby are the same.

Sean,

Works for me.

Ryan,

Sorry my pro-life and anti-gay marraige views offend you.

Well over half of the population oppose unlimited access to abortion and an overwhelming number oppose gay marraige.

In Hot Springs last March; we were treated to the full version of Take Me Out to the Ballgame, sung 1911 style, as the opening to our convention.

If you have never heard it sung the way it was supposed to have been sung; let me assure you it's quite an experience

Regards
Rich

By the time I got home and ran a couple of quick errands I see we got way way past 300 --

Let's hear it for the best thread of the year so far

Jim- please accept this in the spirit in which it is given:

I know you have strong views on various social and political issues, and while we disagree on all of them we still had a laugh about it at the meeting. But if you are still hoping to form a coalition of collectors into an organization that shares a common goal, this just isn't the best way to do it.

If half the country believes abortion is wrong, then you have just alienated the other half of the board. The idea is to bring people together, not split them into two groups.

And we are still friends, and even though I am a dealer I am willing to help you out. But you aren't going about this the right way.

Edward Meeker in 1908 performs the whole song with all the lyrics. Amazingly clear, especially for being a recording almost 100 years old.

Jim, once again you put your foot in your mouth, offend people, and then wonder why everyone kicks you. First, you claim that the majority of America is against "unlimited access to abortion." The truth is, many pro-choice people are against late term or even mid-term abortion. But they still believe that a woman has a right to choose within a reasonable time. In addition, the great majority of America believes that at abortion should be available with, at the very least, some limits. Why didn't you say that, which is the truth?

But that's not your position, is it? You're against all abortion not just abortion at any time. Are you also against abortion when a pregnancy is caused by a rapist? Or when a pregnancy threatens a woman's life? Or when a fetus has a congenital defect? Isn't that your real position?

Regardless, if you want to claim that you are right because the majority of America agrees with your position, why not admit that a majority of America disagrees on nearly every one of your other political positions -- are you aware of the results of the November elections?

People don't want to deal with you not because of your political positions or your baseball card collection or because you want to clean up the hobby. They don't want to deal with you because you are thin-skinned, obnoxious, and offensive at nearly every turn -- and then complain when someone responds (all the while arguing that it is unfair that you are being personally singled out). I think the most hilarious example of this is when you made a homophobic slur towards Colt and then lambasted him for starting such behavior -- that you had yourself started!

I support many of your positions in the card hobby and I am a collector of high grade cards. I spend a lot of money on cards and I support much of our country's foreign policy. But I am also sensitive of how others may feel and the fact that not everyone believes everything I do. I also tend to listen to those that may disagree -- and the reason I do is because I find that I might learn something. You can't build a consensus (or win an election) without at least making believe that you care what anyone else thinks. How can someone like you expect to build any kind of consensus when you have managed to alienate on this board both the conservatives and the liberals, the deep pocketed and the thrifty, the high-end collectors and those that collect beaters? Your delusion is so great that you actually think you can despite the fact that reality is staring you in the face!
