Default Slightly off topic-1964 Curt Flood Cards

Slightly off topic but very interesting!

Doing my daily update for my sports collectible site, http://sportscollectingnews.com
I came across this really interesting story about one collector's single focus of buying thousands of high quality 1964 Curt Flood Cards.

Here's the link to the story.... http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/11...-baseball-card

This guy must be the post-war equivalent of our T206 Titus collector.

Very interesting read. One thing that stuck out to me is that they consider his 4,000 cards about 25% of all of them. That would mean only 16,000 copies exist. I find this estimate really low. Any thoughts?

I think there are probably more out there; because everyone who has a 64T set has one.

Having said that, it makes you wonder just how many of these cards are truly still extant

He isn't even close to 25% IMO.

I think the author did not explain it clearly. Was the ratio for only higher grade cards? If he only buys high grades that would explain why all grades of Flood cards from 1964 don't have the monetary jump seen with the higher grades.

That is one of the funnier stories I have read on the hobby. I hope he is able to purchase another 4,000 in his retirement years. Good luck to the auction house that ends up with this collection sometime down the road. It won't generate quite as much interest as the black swamp find.

Never underestimate the power of a 1964 Topps featuring Curtis Charles Flood.

Not going to lie I just bought a totally miscut one on ebay for a 5 dollar bin after reading the article. I have a wicked registry error one too.
