Default Anyone here with an SMR?

Posted By: Chris

A print copy of the latest issue? I have the online subscription but it doesn't give prices for below PSA 5. I noticed that it finally got around to bumping up prices for the '15 Sporting News Ruth RC to better reflect market prices. Anyone with the SMR price on the VG-EX 4? Thanks in advance. Chris

I know how much you like the plastic (NOT !!)....but just as a personal hint if you buy a high end card in a holder you probably would want to leave it that way. The economics of the situation might outweigh your distaste of the holder....and then maybe not warmest regards ...

Chris,

Do you have one for sale? In any condition?

Julian

I bought a 49 Bowman Doby PSA 8 for $800. Then I called the local card store to ask what it listed for and they said "$548." Then I saw in SCD in their "Graded Cards' section, that it was going for $840.

Then I took it out of it's holder, so I guess it's a $200 card again...

Julian,
I have a PSA 4 of it, but I'm pretty attached to it. But just about any card is "for sale" if the price is right. (I do think, based on recent market activity, that the SMR is off by quite a bit at various price levels. Based on recent sales, the price structure looks more like 2x the price of a '52 Topps Mantle for the most part. That might overprice things somewhat [10-20%] in the grades below PSA 7, but it would be closer to the market than what the SMR says now.)
Chris

I just got tired of waiting for a nice ungraded one.
Don't plan to make a habit of it.

Chris: You won Henry Yee's PSA 4 copy right? I recall that day vividly - last 6 mins of the auction, the price jumped over 50%. You are correct, the SMR is way off on that Ruth and the M101-4 copy. The interest in those issues is amazing, reminds me of the E121 Ruth as of late... Yee's PSA 3 copy realized $2150, my SGC 40 copy garnered $2250, a PSA 7 copy didn't hit the reserve at over $15,000 and the last PSA 3 copy ended at $1800. There is another PSA 3 copy available as we speak.

What other cards do you collect?

I still say that Babe is too skinny in those old cards...

But I'm not jealous. REALLY!

Yep, Henry Yee's PSA 4 it was. As to what else I collect . . . actually I can't afford to collect much in the way of quantity given my tastes. I have a '33 Goudey Ruth #53 in a PSA 7, and a Barry Bonds RC or two, and that's about it.

Do you have any other Ruth's for sale or trade Chris? I own the 1921 E121 American Caramel Babe Ruth PSA 7. I'd be interested in trade for your Ruth rookie, or any other Ruth's from the 1915-20 Boston Red Sox era.

I guess this is what happens to those when they get older...

Hi Julian, I just have the '33 Goudey #53 aside from the '15 Sporting News. I'm really averse to doing trades especially for cards I'm not really passionate about (I hardly even know what the E121 is or its significance). Don't know of any other Ruth cards I'm really intent on having. On card deals I'm basically just comfortable going for cash not trade. Best, Chris

Hi Vorthian, I was wondering if these 2 cards you have pictured have the Ohio back, the San Francisco back, or the blank back?? I am interested in finding out the type of back of each card I see. Thanks Frank fkw707

They are blank backed - as well as the other 2 copies I have in PSA 6 (#3 and #5).
