Found this Eddie Collins batting pose in a t206 reprint set.
Is this a card in a different set perhaps?

My memory might be spotty but if I recall it is not a different set. Many years ago a ledger was found that was from the T206 print shop. It contained notes on distribution, backings, and several cards that were printers scrap and printers proofs. Including in this find was a mock up or proof of a Collins batting. It was never issued. I remember holding this ledger and flipping through it with Terry Knouse. I do not know where the ledger is today nor where the Collins is either.

I don't believe the Collins proof was found in the ledger. Rather, I thought it walked its way into the show with the gentleman who also had all of the T3 proofs? I do know that Charlie Sheen originally purchased the card.

I believe Keith O has the collins card. I saw pieces of the ledger at Tik's table at the 95 nat'l I think it was...he had front/back examples of many scarcer backs attached to ledger pages. Boy do I wish I had a time machine...I'd buy them all!

Jon is correct about it walking into a show in the '70s with more than 100 T206 proofs and many T3 proofs as well.

Sorry if this is a stupid question --- Is there only one known Collins, batting, proof?

The Collins with bat was the only card among the large group of proofs that was not known in the regular issue set.

About five years ago Mastro auctioned a group of 8-10 T206 proof cards that included several unknown players and poses. Some are still unknown since the names didn't appear at the bottom. It was an exceptional group.

It would be great to see the Mastro auction Barry mentioned above if anyone happens to know the link to it.

Does Mastro even have archives available for past auctions? I was trying to look up something from the October auction and couldn't find a way to do it from their site.

Some time back I presented my theory regarding the scarcity of the T206 Plank. Which included this Collins (batting) card and
many of the Philadelphia A's that are missing in the 150 Series of the T206 set.

Here are the two threads on this theory. This never issued Collins card provides excellent support for this theory.

Hey Guys,
Anyone interested in the 8 Proofs should read Olbermann's article in issue # 23 of VCBC. Keith won the cards in Mastro and spent quite a bit of time tracking down the identity of the players.
Be well Brian
