Default What are you looking for at National?

Posted By: Matt E.

Just wondering...those of you who will be attending the National
what would be your "awesome find" (what are you specifically looking to buy). Is there any real chance of finding it?

Wish I was going. Will have to wait for Cleveland.

For me I would be looking for a Hoblitzell No Stats which would pretty well shoot my entire budget for quite awhile.

Images appreciated on this thread if Leon doesn't mind.

If I pickup a '14 CJ Joe Jackson PSA4 or 5 @ the national, I'd wet my pants. And then have to live in those pants until the next payday.

They are in nearly every major auction, Mastro, REA etc very obtainable, actually easy cards to come by.

What you will find at the National is a glut of 1950's-current material in any grade you wish. And one of the best selections of odd-ball material you will ever see, that is the best part, if you like cheap but impossible to find odd-ball you will have a field day, many bargains to be had as well.

Scott

If T205s and 206s are your wants, you will be in 7th Heaven. If you are looking for Obaks, M116s, T207 scarce back series, Zeenuts, PCBiscuit D-cards and E94s and E98s, you are going to be sorely disappointed. Maybe the fact this show is on the Left Coast in PCL country might prove different, but cards from those sets were AWOL in Chicago, I know I looked for them...

19th century Detroit items !, there are still a couple fairly common Old Judges I need (if you can call Old Judges common).

SGC, will be submitting a couple cards for on-site grading (stiff fee) and several others to be graded and returned at their leisure.

And friends, can't wait to meet up with some members who I've dealt with for years but have yet to meet.

Best Regards,
Joe Gonsowski

Anyone know off hand what the grading fees are for on-site grading for PSA and SGC? I assumed they were the same as their other rates... how foolish of me.

Do they ever play the Grey Cup in the US? probably the same reason they don't have the "National" in Canada

I thought PSA's on-site grading fee was either $30/$50, depending on the turnaround [e.g. a few hours or next day]. But I could be mistaken.

Hoping to find a few tougher oddball Phillie cards. The last few T205s I need cheap. Also looking for a few off-condition bargains.

I am brining some trade bait but do not expect much for it...

Joshua

PS I am looking forward to putting some faces to people I have dealt with for years.

Well, they didn't play the Grey Cup in the United States, but for some strange reason, in the 90s, they expanded to the US and in 1995 the Baltimore Stallions were the first (and only I believe) US team to win the Grey Cup. The expansion plans and all the US teams folded and there are only Canadian teams now in the CFL.

Hoping I don't have a similar experience at The National (but always looking for books PCL and Canadian material)

Max

Just filling in want lists of O'Doul, boxing, exhibits, etc.

Also want to submit a bunch of stuff to JSA for authentication, maybe a few to SGC for slabbing, definitely gonna clean out the vault, so to speak, for auction consignments for the fall season.

Believe it or not, the 2006 Topps sets of the Declaration of Independence and Constitution (sic) signers because there are several people in these sets who attended my alma mater and this would be their first card.

A few other things if they pop up -- but I know my 2 dream cards are a little beyond my budget right now

Rich

but, I am hoping that eBay of N54 will have more variety/availabilities after the National....

either from sellers who are holding back to have inventory at the National -
or from flippers who go to the show.

I think Joe D. hit the nail on the head: I am really looking forward to some new stuff here and on ebay from flippers who attend the National.

Looking for obscure type cards. Last year I did well finding post 50's types, but not much pre-war stuff. Also looking forward to family day Friday. Kids get in free and there are activities for them, free autographs, pictures, cards, etc. Also they can see where all the family's money goes and why they have no college fund.

Don't expect to find, but looking for:

Grennan Bread
Derby Cigar
Fredrick Foto
Pebble Beach Clothing
M101-8 Sporting News

Oh, and a N338-2 S.F. Hess - thanks in advance, Leon!

Just got my Mastro winnings and I am now officially a Fro-Joy fan. Guess I'll be looking (carefully) for the 2 I need to finish the Ruth set.

I will be waiting for Tom B to throw more unknown E94 overprints on my table like he did several years ago....and then as long as Pete C is sitting next to me I will know which one(s) to pick again......actually I might have learned by now.....still a great story though....or maybe another after hours party in our hotel room where we all cut up....and Vorthian is the best behaved guy in the room.....oh, we've had some good times. I guess that's really what I go for.....the good times....
