Default I love ebay surprises....

Got some items from the Bill Dickey estate in the mail today and was quite surprised that there was a letter in the envelope from Grantland Rice. It was mentioned in the auction, but not shown.

Other items included in the lot were a couple of 1939 Centennial matchbook covers made specifically for the Yankee players.

Also included with the lot were two 1941 Spring Training rosters - unfortunately they are stuck to scrapbook paper...I may cut one out and soak it to see if I can get it out successfully.

Dan- The Grantland Rice letter is pretty cool. Interesting reading him mentioning the games he was covering, especially the ND game, since he is known for being the writer that coined the phrase "Four Horsemen" for Notre Dame's backs. A legendary sports writer...that's quite a relic. Congrats!

Thanks, I think Dickey's stuff was all auctioned recently in a Grey Flannel auction if I remember correctly.....I love it when the dealers get hold of that kind of stuff and it hits ebay.

Some of the personal items ended up in Hunt Auctions as well. I bid on a few scrapbooks that sold for around $300-400 for 8-10 books. That letter is a neat find! I love correspondences between players.
