Default PSA says it's trimmed!

Posted By: pete

I need some help. I recently sent a PRO graded 7 (Lou Gehrig) to PSA for crossover and they returned it "evidence of trimming". I since measured it for accuracy and it seems to be exact. My question is should I crack it open and sell it "possible trimmed" or list it as PRO graded 7???? Since I'm new here, I haven't figured out how to post my photos yet. Thanks for any suggestions.

it's harder to find an UNTRIMMED card in a PRO holder than a nun wearing a pink bikini........

Hopefully you didn't pay too much for it. It wouldn't have been in a PRO holder if it wasn't trimmed. Good luck recouping your money.......I'd go possible trimmed. PRO is the kiss of death......

You could try cracking it out of the PRO holder and then sending it to PSA. If PSA doesn't see the PRO holder, they might not conclude it's trimmed.

Paul has an excellent point. It should be submitted at least 3 times before you give up! Unfortunately Tom is correct too, most PRO slabbed cards are trimmed. Remember, the size is meaningless, the edges and corners show the trimming. May we have a scan?

I have very little problem detecting most alterations (I know, I don't work for a grading company, but somehow I can do it anyway), but I'm weak on detecting non-obvious trimming. Can anyone out there give us a quick tutorial (other than 'get a ruler')? Thanks!

Also, Greg, I'll gladly pay you $450 for the e95 Cobb (in the slab) - I just want to look at it - I'll even sell it back to you afterward for the same price, but if you don't want it I would prefer to keep it. Seriously. I will take it out of the slab and if I can't detect the coloring, I will gladly admit it on this board.

Same thing happened to me. Trimmed N28. I submitted it to SGC to confirm my conclusion, ended up selling it as trimmed at a huge loss.

If it is authentic but trimmed, there is a market; it just happens to be a low priced market.

Be careful opening the holder--PRO holders are tough. I needed to demolish most of the perimeter with a pliers before I could get enough leverage to safely pop it and still sliced my finger.

Sell it in the PRO holder and (it will essentially be redundant) tell people it didn't cross. That way you don't have to crack it out and risk damaging it, you get whatever benefit you get from having it in a holder, and you have a clear conscience.

rather than tapering to the edge (of course, you need a magnifying glass--that would probably be best, a microscope would be overkill, and you'd just see layers and spots--to compare you un-holdered Gehrig with a common's edges. If it still looks good to you--

Try SGC! They are good. PRO cards are mostly trimmed, but not all.

Don't buy anymore cards in PRO holders, and don't try to sell it in a PRO hoilder.

You guys are great! You too, Julie!...I believe I will drive to Newport Beach and do a walk through crossover. whats $50 if you can make $100's more? About the scan, I haven't figured out how to post them yet, I'm not too computer literit.
So is it just me or does it seem that PSA is no longer the Premier Card Grader?
Thanks again to everyone for you input
