Default Real or Fake T206

Posted By: Josh K.

I came across this cobb bat on on ebay. Any opinions on whether it is real or not? If you look at the pictures you will notice that the graded card, which is intended to be an example and not for sale, is virtually identical to the ungraded card for sale (look at the corners and the print dot on the arm).

Something didnt look right.

with all due respect to our northern neighbors, i would never buy an ungraded card from canada. most of the reprints seem to be flowing out of that country.

the card pictured is a reprint, as is the crappy graded card he pictured.

The card in the holder and the ungraded one do seem to be the same card which then makes his description not make sense. They have the same wear and markings

As the tattoo on my moms back says "never trust anyone from canada" I think thats a little harsh but i also wouldnt buy anything ungraded from across the border, especially if the seller doesnt know what they are selling. In fact the only people i trust up there is Ben and Elliot, just slightly

Quite honestly, the card, outside of being slightly off-toned looks ok. The true warning signs are how the card is presented in the description (no refund, not an expert, etc.). Also, look closely at the grading service (not one of the reputable companies). I would not risk the money unless the seller was willing to submit the card to PSA or SGC.

Just look at the other things the guy has for sale...the typical scammer lineup including a 1952 Topps Mantle, Four 1933 Goudey Ruth's, a 1933 Goudey Lajoie, and "1914" Cracker Jacks of Mathewson, Joe Jackson, Honus Wagner, and Walter Johnson.

I would stay far, far away.

The reprint/forgery scammers (among other things) upset me too much, so I dropped out. But maybe I should just start collecting reprints and forgeries? Talk about a great investment - a nicely "baked" '33 Ruth should triple in value within 30 minutes of removal from the oven. And those "wide-bordered" Ruths don't require any work whatsoever - it's free money!!! Now you know how someone from Stout, Ohio thinks.

Scott just think of how much that one of a kind Old Judge card is going to be worth once youre done making it for me! I suggest making a couple copies for yourself, but dont flood the market.

PS I havent got the pic yet but as long as it comes by saturday ill send the scan on Easter sunday,or as we like to call it at my house,Easter sunday

I actually had no interest in this card - I was just checking out my competition as I have one of my cobb bat ons listed on ebay. I thought it was a fake - problem is, its stealing bidders from my legit auction.

It looks like shill-bidding is in progress. I'd DEFINITELY stay away from this particular seller.

I realize that this has been rehashed a few times but could someone please provide me with information for obtaining those nice looking holders that Alan Hager uses. I would like to order a few and show everyone what a good job a novice can do at creating a nice looking slabbed card. I'm not saying that his card has been encapsulated improperly. Here's the link to FGS:

The website doesn't exactly exude confidence.

the card looks exactly like the one in the holder, corner wear and all. Could it be photoshopped?

i guess he couldnt even wait for 90 days for the scan to drop off, what a nimrod! those two cobbs in the photo are identical! right down to the black "dots" on cobbs elbow and cap...someone needs to notify those bidders, providing they are real bidders....
