Default Need help identifying a N172 Old Judge Brown's Champions card

Posted By: Matt Vance

I've been primarily a modern card collector, but I've been researching on this site and others, gaining information on vintage. I received this card in a collection I purchased. I did enough research to find out it's an N172 Old Judge card. From what I understand, the Brown's Champions was a sub-set or a pose variation within this very large set. However, as you can see from the scan, most of the name of this player is faded. Can anyone identify for me? Thanks.

It is Arlie Latham. Here is a better photo of him to see.

I believe this to be Curt Welch. It also favors Bill Gleason, but I think its Curt Welch. I'm sure a Network 54 vet can verify.

Thanks for the help. It's much easier to see on a nicer card! But, now that I know who it is, I can kind of see the outline of the letters on my card. I was thinking of having this card graded by either PSA or SGC. More for authenticating it than anything, if I decide to sell it. Any chance this card would receive higher than a PSA 1 grade? Is selling it graded really going to affect the sale price versus selling it raw in this condition? Thanks!

And getting it graded will definitely help on resell to assure people the card is authentic. A lot of fakes get beat up like this to make the seem old. I know I'm skeptical of vintage beaters these days.
