If you like 1940's-present pins, it's UNPARALLELED..........

Nothing from 1880's to 1930's, so missing.....

1880's Position Pins
Certifieds Ice Cream
Diamond Gum
PM1's
Kolbs
Mrs. Sherlocks
Cameo Pepsin
P2's
Cracker Jacks
Buster Brown
Mortons Pennant Winner
Winkleman's
Hermes
etc, etc, etc....

Great reference for PM10's though

A little pricey at $85 or so that it's selling for out there I think....

Dan,
Tom is right. The reason that he doesn't include those issues is that they are part of sets. In his intro he writes that he felt there were plenty of guides for those. The best section, in my opinion, is the World Series buttons. They are all there. After that, there are amazing special day event, all-star, and fantastic minor league and knothole buttons. You'll be glad if you pick it up. Here's a few quick pics that I won't leave posted for too long.

looking at baseball crap, it's a good buy at $85.00. The photography and breadth of pins in the issues he deals with is really incredible. I just would like more of the 'sets'. It would be nice to have them pictured in that level of detail with that quality photography. Adding some of the issues I outlined above would have taken only 15-20 more pages really........

Maybe for volume II................

this book would have been outstanding if he'd included all the early sets and took out all the basically "brand new" material. There are a lot of big glossy pages with buttons from the 80's and even 90's.

Baseball Pinback Buttons is a heavy hardbound book that might make a nice coffee table decoration. There are thousands of quality photographs of pinbacks shown in their actual size so it may help someone who has not seen the pins to identify them.

That said I feel $85 plus postage for this book is way too much. Here are my main criticisms:

(1) The books was not meant as a priceguide, so there are no prices.

(2) There is only minimal text so unless the reader is already familiar with these pinbacks, the reader will not gain a lot of knowledge about the pinbacks in the photos.

(3) So much space is devoted to modern stadium pins and team issues. I agree with the above posters who think that the all the space devoted to the modern pins would have been better used for the prewar pinback issues.
