Default T222 Set Completed

Posted By: Mike Peich

I was very fortunate to complete a trade this week-end that netted me John "Bull" Henry, the final card to complete my T222 set. The card is trimmed at the top, but as many of you know who collect the set Henry is ridiculously scarce--I didn't expect to own it for many years.

Having reached this milestone, I wonder if I'll merit recognition by Wonka!

Cheers to all, Mike

Wow!!!

That's a great set. To have it complete is AWESOME!!! It must have been a great feeling to have that last card in YOUR HANDS to finally realize what you did.

That's one of my favorite sets from that time period.

Mike, Congratulations on completing your set. Any time one of us accomplishes one of our collecting goals, it is a time to be recognized and celebrated! What are your 5 favorite cards from the set that you own? Could you post scans of them?

Hi Tim,

Thank you for the kind words. It's difficult for me to pick five, so I'd go with the following, although a case could be made for each of the 52 players in the set:

Alexander--Great pose, great pitcher
Henry--Obvious and hasn't been graded yet
Johnson--one of my favorite pitchers and another great pose with the classic Big Train finish
Lee Magee--His smile indicates he's enjoying the Show
Sherry Magee--Should be an HOFer and swung a big bat
Big Ed Reulbach--Should also be an HOFer and one of my favorite Cub pitchers
Slim Sallee--This is the same pose as his T3 and explains his nickname
J.C. Smith--a great swing and another big bat

Follow this link and you can see all eight of them:

Cheers, Mike

Congratulations, Mike. A significant accomplishment.

Henry, impressive. I too like that dark pose of Ed Reulbach. I've hoped to find one of the Lelivelt cads, but they elude me... If you're still posting them, show us Mr. Lelivelt! He was supposed to be one very knowledgeable baseball man.

Congrats Mike, a great set. I've enjoyed helping and watching other put this set together, certainly a challenge. I like the sepia colored photographs. Do you also collect the non-baseball subjects?

Best Regards,
Joe Gonsowski

Mike:

Congratulations. The T222 is one set I've never owned an example of despite my prefrence for baseball cards with real pictures. There is just something about them.

You are obviously going to move on to something new. Stay away from Old Judges!wink.gif

That card has been on my wantlist for a decade.
Can we see a scan? I don't think I have ever even seen one.
Maybe we can see Bill's?

Hi Richard (and Adam),

My scanner at home is not the greatest so I'll try to send a scan of Henry from the office tomorrow. Like you, I had never seen the the card, and it turns out to be a nice pose. I have scanned a few cards (Henry excluded) including some of the scarce ones:

Thanks for the interest.

Cheers,
Mike

3 Henrys... there's another one I know of that came out of the Copeland collection and is now in a PSA holder. But that's it!
