Default Hake's Winners

Another great auction last night from Hake's, including what I believe is an all-time high price for a Negro League player card, $94K for the 1910 Punch Pop Lloyd. Did anyone on the board pick up any of the great items that ended last night?

I snagged the 26-27 Aguilitas Isidro Fabre. I really likee the Billiken Rojo, what a fabulous image!

Does anyone know how many more Merkin collection sales there will be?

I showed my gf the image of that card - punched hole, irregular hand-cut borders, and let her guess what it sold for. Always fun.

I got the Paul Thompson Marsans photo.

Out of curiosity, what did your girlfriend guess?

She generally starts low and I make her work her way up Now that she's used to the game, she generally starts a bit higher than she used to - $1,000 this time.

I got the 1936 Pirates autographed photo with Paul and Lloyd Waner plus tough autographs of Cy Blanton and Jack Welch. Love the image and the fact that they autographed it. It hails from the Merkin collection. I posted an image in the memorabilia forum under March pickups. Love it.

While I am typically a card collector, I picked up a few photos (Santa Clara and Concordia)... But missed out on the Bismarck photo which was fantastic

Great auction.

Didn't the Cabanas Pete Hill go for 230K or something crazy like that, several years ago? BTW, I made rather halfhearted attempts at the Billiken Andy Cooper, the Aguilitas Torriente, and that AWESOME RPPC with Oscar Charleston, Judy Johnson, Smokey Joe Williams, and Cum Posey - 4 HOFers you don't see every dang day! All just a bit too steep. And don't EVEN get me started on the Biz Mackey card!!

The Cabanas Pete Hill was offered at a minimum bid of $200K in one of Ryan Christoff's auctions but did not sell. To my knowledge, that's the only time it has been offered for sale.

Nice, Adam - one of my favorite reasonably-priced items from that auction.

Just out of curiosity what did you expect the Biz Mackey to pull in?

I was thinking $8K - $10K on the Mackey but it did better than that.
