Default 1894 Alpha Photo Engraving

I wasn't sure whether to post this in the March pick-up thread or the Fort Washington thread so I started a new one. I met Dan McKee on Saturday at the Fort Washington show to pick up the Alphas. Up until Saturday, I had seen the graded Alphas only in scan form and not in person. They are some of the most beautiful cards I have ever seen. Dan McKee is a super guy and made this transaction very easy.

Here are the hall of famers

Patrick:

So, is Steve Brodie chopped liver?

Not a HOFer for sure, but pretty darn good.

Not a hall of famer, but still batted .303 lifetime. I am surprised his name is never mentioned when talking about the nineteenth century players passed over for the hall.

As far as I know it's Brodie's only individual issue.

I'm glad to have found his image on an 1887 Canton team cabinet (along with 19th century first baseman Jake Virtue).

Never heard of 'em.

Are you sure they are not from 1994?

Not only is it Brodie's only card, but for most of the commons in the set, it appears that these are their only cards

But they are definitely not as valuable or as important as an SGC88 for a 1951 Puerto Rican set

SGC mislabelled the Gibson card.

It is actually from 1851.

It makes just as much sense for them to have printed the card before he was born as it does for them to have printed it after he died.

The dismantling of the Alphas has begun (see B/S/T).
