Default Collector magazine

Happily, I received today the newest issue of Collector Magazine, always masterfully edited by our own Al Crisafulli. It's always delightful to see Net 54
vintage scholars in print and I was particularly pleased to see quite a good crowd of them in this issue. Al's piece on Baseball Advertising Displays was beautifully crafted and included a number of well-chosen illustrations, such
as the Boston Garter, Fro-joy, the Hassan Cobb-Matty, and Lucky Strike.
Al's interview with Dan Guttman is also a most engaging read.
Anthony Nex's own personal collecting story accompanied by gorgeous photos
of unopened baseball card packs is a must read, as it is so expertly done. The photos grace both the cover of the issue and several pages within and are absolutely captivating.
I must also say that it was great fun to see our own Barry Sloate and Rob Lifton quoted frequently by others in the issue, giving them their due as key scholars in this vintage baseball field. I was particularly pleased with B. Chidester's note on Barry: "During the 1980s, Brooklyn native Barry Sloate emerged as one of card collecting's most respected historians." In academia, we would relish this as a key citation and hold it tightly through the tenure doors.
Much more can be said. Do take a read.
Congrats Al et al.
best,
barry

Thanks so much, guys.

It's not the most "on time" publication in the hobby, but we do work pretty hard to make it beautiful and interesting. It was really the generosity of fellow collectors that made this one come together well.

And while I'm not one to use this board to try and drum up subscriptions and ads, especially when we have such a great cards-only pub in Old Cardboard that deserves paid subscriptions from each of us, subscriptions are only $20, and every little bit helps.

And yes, Anthony's pack photos are unbelievable; I would have an absolute blast ripping all of those packs open and pulling out tens of dollars' worth of off-center commons. The artwork is gorgeous and if I had any willpower whatsoever, I'd start a pack collection of my own.

Next issue's scheduled for June; I hope to have it out by November.

-Al

Thanks for the kind words everyone, and a huge thanks to Al for continually putting out such a high quality magazine. I really hope everyone considers supporting Al's Collector and Brett and Lyman's Old Cardboard with subscriptions- it's really a nominal cost and all 3 of them really put their heart and soul into their work.

That was a very popular issue, unfortunately they're all sold out. Thanks for asking, though.

For all those that subscribed, I packed up your copies today and they'll go out with Monday's mail. Thank you again!
