Default Memory Lane Matty Auto

I know I'm not supposed to out auctions but I figured a top item in a top auction house would be ok.

I'm surprised by the price so far.. are most people staying away because PSA wouldn't cert it? I'm no autograph expert but a huge Matty fan. Never thought I could afford a single signed ball but I'm thinking of giving this one a go. I'd appreciate everyone's thoughts on authenticity etc.

I think this says it all................

"PSA/DNA has reviewed the Mathewson ball and ultimately decided not to issue an LOA"

I was going to stay away even before I read about the PSA/DNA refusal.

Thanks for the comments guys! I would love to know PSA's reason for not certifying it.

Could be that PSA found it was inconclusive also. Either way, I'm of the school that if the story around the article is THAT detailed, then I'm a little leery.

When two companies disagree on whether an LOA should be issued, I'd stay far away from that item.

Not that the other company has anything to do with the company issuing an LOA but it always seemed like you better have a pretty darn good reason for disagreeing with another industry leading TPA.

+1 Before I spend big money on an autographed item, I have both JSA and either PSA, Beckett or SGC look at it, too. If one company goes under, then you could get royally screwed. The notion that any of these companies are going to be around for the duration of your owning an item is perilous. Getting two certs gives you some manner of cover in this regard.

The wording is so hazy.
Did PSA say bad or inconclusive???
Makes a big difference.

Marty is my number one want, and someday I will cobble the funds together. This ball would be a pass for me though.

I love the "ironclad family provenance"; I think Memory Lane's definition of "ironclad" is different than mine.

What do you mean??? The brother of the consignor promised it is good

Honestly no idea what they mean by ironclad family provenance, might be worth contacting them on it...

I was reading a book by an expert in ancient American Indian artifacts. He said, when buying, the longer and more intricate the story about how the item was obtained the more suspect, and you accept the provenance story after you've determined the item is real not before.

Yea... I'm going to stay away from it. If I'm going to spend that kind of money I want to be sure. After reading the description again, it sounds like one I've seen on ebay a million times! Found in my Grandfather's attic etc.
