Default Ted Williams Book question

Posted By: Alan Elefson

Hi-
I recently acquired the book scanned below titled "Ted Williams" by Arthur Sampson with a copyright date of 1950. I was wondering if this is a first edition, as well as if there were later printings of this book. I also am curious as to its value as it does have its dustjacket (albeit in rough shape). I checked ABE.com but the only ones with dust jackets were priced really high (in my opinion), and I was hoping for a more accurate valuation.
Thanks in advance for any help,
Alan Elefson

It should tell you before the title page if it's a first edition or a later printing.

Barry-
Thank you for your response. I did check the pages and it appears to be a first printing but I have picked up old novels that I thought were first editions but turned out to be laer issues through a book club (with no page showing early printings). For the amount I paid, it does not really matter, but I am curious.
Thanks again,
Alan Elefson

If I recall correctly, Barnes did not state "first edition" or "first printing" at this time (although I should confirm with my pocket guide at home)

I haven't seen this book in later printings and certainly not in a later edition.

It is reasonably common on ebay. The fair market value can very wildly on a book like this, but I would normally expect it to sell on ebay for $25 to $35 on ebay. The titles on ABE have been listed for quite some time.

It is a tough book to find the dj in nice shape

Max

Thank you very much for the information! For the price I paid (under 5 dollars) I definitely got a good deal.

I couldn't see your scan while at work today. That isn't that bad a dj, and I would think would sell for $35 to 50 on ebay. At $5, buy those all day.
