Default Tip of the hat to SGC

Posted By: Rob Dewolf

A couple of times in the past on this board I've been critical -- not to mention in the minority -- of SGC, specifically in the area of customer service (numerous unanswered e-mails, unreturned phone messages, etc.) Because of this, I think it's only fair to mention an extremely positive experience I had today.

At noon I sent an e-mail to SGC requesting that a 1940s baseball set that wasn't offered as a choice on its registry be added. At 12:55 p.m. I received a reply from Sean Skeffington saying that the set would be added by this evening. By 3 p.m. the new set category was available as a choice on the registry.

In an era when grading companies seemingly fall off the face of the Earth while "moving" their offices, I think this experience is definitely worth a mention and a thank-you.

I've never had a bad experience with SGC. Ok, maybe I didn't always agree with the grades assigned to the cards I submitted but other than that they've been great!

Sean's a good guy and a true professional.
Spoke to him at length last week about an odd ball
set I wanted to be slabbed, he was very accomadating
and the set in his hands now.

Sean, now if only you would add the T205 variations to the set registry.
Dealing with SGC has always been a positive experience for me as well.

Rob- I was told in 2005 that my complete set of SGC graded T212 Obaks with 150 series backs would be added to the Registry. Twice. Never appeared. At the National in Chicago in 2006 one of the guys from SGC apologized and said it would definitely be added as that set did not appear in their Registry and mine would be the first. Nothing. It is now November 2007 and it is still no there. I don't mind if you want to lie to me but just don't smile while you are doing it.

Steve- Well that's certainly bizarre! I wonder if the same person who changed the weighted numbers on the cards we griped about a few days ago read my post and presto, a new category on the registry! I guess I'll have to hit the safe deposit box and come up with all those SGC serial numbers and grades again, sheesh....

...is second to none and first by a large margin. How many companies have someone live (in this case Michael Goldberg) routinely pick up the phone after a ring or two after you dial 2 for customer service? Outstanding support, consistent grading and the nicest looking holder in the hobby -- all with a money-backed guarantee. I have been a satisfied customer for nearly 5 years now.

I am eager to see who SGC partners with in the autograph industry to continue slabbing my signed pre-war cards. I just purchased a raw T202 signed Wheat and am not particularly excited about having BVG/JSA slab it. I love JSA, but I really do not like the BVG slabs.

So you're the guy who got the ebay seller to pull the listing for the signed T202 Wheat? I don't know what you paid, but I would imagine it was well less then it would have gone for as many of us were interested. Good job!

I have had only one experience with SGC to date, and it was a great one, as I found their Svc Mgr to be very helpful and attentive.

We'll see about my next experience with them, though, as I have a couple of doozies to present them with, so we'll see how they handle them!

SGC is a A++ organization with me
I recently was told I was the second person to send them a submission way back
I wonder who was the 1st person to do a submission to SGC
You have to have real trust to send someone your precious cardboard
Especially these days
I can't imagine sending cards to 98% of the card graders out there
Go to their websites
Many have NO phone #
Just a email
Who is behind the firm?
Who are the graders?
What is their expertise to grade & authenticate my rare cardboard?
We are really trusting, to a fault

Venture capital
The white collar lottery
Slab my prospectus?

or

Which of these is worse-
Closing up without notice,
Or then coming back?

or

Fancy new, white flip
Should make things better real quick
Run! It's the landlord!

I don't have a clue what this is all about but it sure detracts from the original intent of the poster. While I hope SGC isn't reading all this I suspect that they might.
