Default Collectors of pre-war baseball cards - here or not ?

Posted By: Alan

I'm trying to determine what percentage of pre-war collectors are either members or lurkers of this great message board. In other words, how many /percentages of pre-war baseball card collectors that either don't know about this forum, don't have/use a computer, or don't post/lurk for whatever reason ?

Thanks.

I collect and post from time-to-time, but I'm not sure we'll get responses from people who aren't aware of the Board.

lololol. It's that kind of top-shelf mental acuity that makes you the big bucks Cobby. lol. Good one.

I'm neither a member offically, nor a lurker, and I represent a head-count of "1" in pre-war collecting.

I think it's easy to fall into the thinking that "everyone" in pre-war is part of this forum. My reality check is the number of ebay bidders on cards that would appeal to collectors but not casual buyers, and how many ebay id's that I don't recognize for these cards. Sometimes I recognize the vast majority of bidders from this board, and other times maybe only one or two.

My best, and completely unsupported guess? Maybe 20-35% for pre 1920. Get into 20's, Goudey, PB, etc, and I suspect it's much much lower.

PURELY a swag.

Joann

I can supply a few stats but not too many: These are unique IP address hits below. I think we have around 800 people that follow the board and have had that many for about the last 8-10 months. It has steadied off at about where we are today. Generally there are around 800 on the weekends and my guess is that many folks that go to work check it out there and then get home and check it out again in the evening. If I had to guess I would say we get about 15%-20% of the total pre-war baseball card collectors on the net. I could be way off too....but that would be my gut feel guess.

Sun, Jun 4... 746
Mon, Jun 5... 943
Tue, Jun 6... 1,014
Wed, Jun 7... 988
Thu, Jun 8... 334

The total number of hits to the site is about 13000-14000 a day....with me accounting for about half of them best regards

Every day about 100 pre-1930 single card auctions close on eBay. Do our 800 guys buy all 100 cards every day? I betcha some squeek thru 'cause we don't want them.
