The elite eight are what I posted in your other thread T206 "T206 Carl Lundgren Chicago Back question". They are 150-350 Group Subjects, but appear to be short printed with the Piedmont 350 back. They are:

Dahlen Boston
Ewing
Ganley
Tom Jones St Louis
Karger
Lindaman
Lundgren Chicago
Mullin Horizontal

However, as Ted responded in that same thread, the Elite Eight have now become the Ninja Nine with the finding of Schulte Front View with a P350 back. Previously it was thought that this card was in the 150 Only Group Subjects.

Best Regards,
Craig

Who has a Mullin Horizontal in a Piedmont 350? I would love to see a scan. How many of these cards exist in just Pied 150, 350 and EPDG?

Hi Lee,

Of the "Ninja Nine" I can personally rule out all except Lindaman and Lundgren existing in just P150, P350, and EPDG backs. Here are what I have in my collection:

Dahlen Boston - P150, SC150#30
Ewing - P150, SC150#25, SC150#649OP
Ganley - P150, SC150#30, P350
Tom Jones St Louis - P150, SC150#649OP, P350
Karger - P150, SC150#30
Lindaman - P150, EPDG
Lundgren Chicago - P150
Mullin Horizontal - P150, SC150#30, P350
Schulte Front View - P150, SOV150, SC150#30

Best Regards,
Craig

Oops, meant, 150 series in total, with P350 andEPDG.

Nice run Craig, I have got a fair number of Lindaman backs but not that many.

Is the Mullin horizontal suppose to come in EPDG? If not why?

Just to clarify a little, the (formerly) "elite eight" subjects were so designated because they were believed to be the only eight 150/350 subjects that could only be found in the 350 series with the Piedmont 350 back and EPDG. That is, these subjects alone among the 150/350 subjects were thought to be available with the Piedmont 350 back but no other "350 subjects" back (e.g., Sweet Caporal 350 and Sovereign 350). What's more, they are more difficult to find with the Piedmont 350 back than are other 150/350 subjects.

Now that a single copy of Schulte (Front View) with Piedmont 350 has been confirmed, the "elite eight" have morphed into the "notable nine" (I'm personally not a big fan of "ninja nine").

Will any of the remaining 150-only subjects someday surface with a Piedmont 350 back and transform this list into the "tremendous ten"? I doubt it, but time will tell.

Are all "notable nine" confrimed with EPDG backs? Obviously the Schulte has not been confirmed yet.

Default Lee B......

The Elite Eight have been confirmed with the EPDG back.

The Schulte card has not.

However, the Lundgren card is seldom seen with an EPDG back....I think only 3 have been confirmed.

So, my point is......an EPDG of Schulte may eventually surface. It took many years for Brian Weisner
to find this card with a HINDU back.

Lee,

Good point. You are right about Schulte (Front View) not yet having been confirmed with EPDG (not surprising since there is only ONE confirmed copy with Piedmont 350)! I will leave it to others to comment on whether all of the original "elite eight" have been confirmed with EPDG. I think so, but am not entirely sure.

Lee,

Both Lundgren Chicago and KC are known with EPDG.

The EPDG back on a Lundgren (Cubs) card is extremely scarce. I acquired this card with an EPDG back in 1985. I did
not see another one till 2006. As I said earlier, I think there are only 3 of these cards that have been confirmed.

The Lundgren (KC) is not as tough to find with an EPDG back....but, it's not easy, either.

Hi Ted,
It took me about 15 years to find the Schulte/Hindu.... So it is very tough.... Just as the Piedmont 350 in JoeP's collection.... It makes you wonder how many "no prints" might show up.....
Be well Brian

PS I hope you find a few at the National.....

Certainly not an easy card but they are out there. A PSA 2.5 sold in January and if I'm not mistaken a raw example sold on Ebay since then. One is for sale on Ebay right now in a 10 holder.

Great front/back card.

Nice find good buddy. According to my latest tally, your's is either the 5th (or 6th) Chicago Lundgren / EPDG card to surface.....since I've been tracking
this front/back combo (going back to 1984 when I acquired this EPDG from Barry Sloate).

Default T206 "Elite Eight"..........

For T206 collectors that like to get into the "nitty-gritty" of front / back combos, here again are the elite 8 subjects.

[linked image]

Originally, when I coined this term several years ago, it included Lundgren (Chicago). However, this 1st series Carl Lundgren card is in a class of its own
in the "hierarchy" of the T206's. This T206 subject was printed with ony 3 different tobacco backs (see post #19 here). The short-printing of Lundgren
was most likely due to his Major League career ending April 23, 1909.

So, I have replaced Lundgren with the Schulte (front view) card in order to be consistent with the other 7 subjects in this group. All eight of these sub-
jects can be found with PIEDMONT 150, SOVEREIGN 150, SWEET CAPORAL 150, and the Brown HINDU backs. The Ewing and Tom Jones cards are also
found with the SWEET CAPORAL 150, Factory 649 overprint.

Very rarely will these 8 cards be found with a PIEDMONT 350 back. And, they were not printed with SOVEREIGN 350, nor SWEET CAPORAL 350 backs.
Furthermore, 7 of these subjects are found with the El Principe de Gales back (EPDG)....but, this a very rare occurence. The Schulte card has yet to
be confirmed with the EPDG back.

Default EPDG Lundgren Chicago

After comparing notes, Tim and I think there are two different PSA 4 EPDG Lundgren Chicago. You can compare the scans and decide for yourself.

Craig

The Lundgren in this lot has an El Principe back. I don't know if you were counting it or not.
