Default Memory Lane prices last night

Wonder what anyone thought. Certainly the PSA 8 t206s commons went through the roof ($3000 in many cases). Didn't follow everything. A PSA 8 Cronin U.S. Caramel topped $3000, a record.

The 33 Goudey Lajoie went for a lot more than the last PSA 6. I was watching and bidding on quite a few lot. Most went higher than I thought they would.

Signed 52 mantle close to 100k...amazing

Still a far cry from the "275K PRIVATE" sale

1925 Exhibit Lou Gehrig 60k. I guess the secret is out on these cards

1907 Dietsche Cobb batting close to 5K.

Gehrig Caramel also very strong. There's one I should have bought a few years ago. Small population relative to Goudeys. Don't love the Gehrig card but it's a hell of a lot better than Ruth with his clown hat on.

Several of the nicer T204's brought more than recent sales, showing signs of previous levels again.

Reports of the death of the high end market for rare vintage cards once again wildly exaggerated.

Wow, this was a huge auction!

Some very nice prices realized! I'd say the hobby is pretty healthy yet.

I got outbid on one and won the other and my max auto bid was higher. Happy on my end!

I too was high bid on one and got outbid on the other I was gunning for. I was actually quite pleased with the affordability of some of the rare back t206. Think that was because there were just too many Tinker, Evers, Chance cards for one auction?

LOL - I actually won the Evers Hindu! I was surprised it did not go higher. I was just happy to get a Hindu back for my set of an HOF I needed.

One bid. One win. Below my auto bid. Satisfied with that.
When catalog came out I was thinking that was a LOT of T206 tinker Evers chance.

Yeah far too many of those guys. But that served me well I guess. Hopefully the next auction overloads on someone else I need!

Yeah sure looked like a Cubs fan's collection got liquidated. I thought a few T206 went for steals (Hindu Evers port, Tinker BB, Chance Lenox). Some others that have been historically under-valued went for strong prices that reflect their scarcity.

Jersey City, you get the Evers portrait Hindu? Congrats! I got the Evers red Hindu! Regarding the Lenox, wasn't it a chance and not tinker? I chased the Chance up to about $2500 but bowed out to focus on the Evers RH. Looks like there may be a lack of Cubs rare backs for a while (unless people throw them up on eBay for 3x what they went for at auction-- don't you love that??!!)

There was a Chance PSA 4 and a Tinker PSA 1. Both had Lenox backs.

Rhotchkiss, looks like I just outbid you on the Chance Lenox. I'm thrilled to own it at that price.

Yup, seems like it was you and I. I had a feeling we were in for a bidding war (we could have fought each other up another few thousand $$$). I am glad you got it. And I agree, great price

Looks like strong COLLECTOR-BASED prices realized, indicating a healthy market. A nice departure from the speculative investor-crazed market for gem mint 10's we'd been seeing. That 1907 Dietsche Cobb batting in VG-EX that went for $4700 looked like a clone of mine in the same grade I got for $1200 just a few years back (mine would be ExMT+ but for a light water mark on the reverse).

Best wishes,

Larry

Based on the $3000+ price on the PSA 5 Billy Sunday I'd say the Old Judge market is moving higher.

Congrats on the RH. I won the EPDG Chance batting and yellow portrait and Tinker bat off. I was out bid on the EPDG Chance portrait, any body here win it?

Agreed Jay, nearly $4k for Sunday OJ and more than that for a Brouthers Scrapp! Not much 19th century material but some strong prices.
