Default Edd J. Roush 1915 Federal League Contracts & Letters

Posted By: EddJRoush

Hello,
Although technically off-topic, I am making a post on behalf of the granddaughter of Edd Roush.

Together, we are working together to create a digital archive of her grandfather's letters, documents, baseball cards, and other assorted memorabilia. The archive will be housed at the Black Sox file center, unless we want to change it. So far, we have updated the site with a letter from Ty Cobb, a letter from WH Watkins, and the two different revisions of his Federal League contract from 1915. What is so fascinating about the contracts is the inclusion of "The reserve clause". It has been "over struck" in both examples.

These files have been produced from copies of the originals (I didn't have my scanner with me the first time!). We will continue to do this over the next few years. We do not live in the same state, so we have to do it when I travel.

We hope you enjoy reading this information, please be advised the files are all over 1 meg in size.

To download:
1) Visit the Black Sox File Center
2) You can either scan the list for the appropriate documents or select Edd J Roush Estate from the categories.
3) Again, please be advised these documents are quite large, we wanted them to be high quality.

If anyone has any questions, stories about Edd, comments, you name it... please email us.

Take Care,
Ted Golden & Susan D.

I really enjoyed reading the old newspaper articles. Great stuff. But when I opened the Cobb letter, nothing came up. I tried it a couple times and I got what seemed like a blank pdf document ...

Although I use an open source program, I assume you are using Acrobat Reader. To reduce the file size for the 4 Roush documents, the files are only compatible with versions 7.0 and later. To upgrade to the latest version click here. It's a free download.

If that doesn't fix the problem, shoot me an email.

Black Sox Fan

Being the curious sort that I am I did a conversion for the Eddie Collins 1920 contract to see what $12,000 would equate to in 2005. Here's what it came out as...

In 2005, $12,000.00 from 1920 is worth:

$116,946.11 using the Consumer Price Index
$93,237.77 using the GDP deflator
$402,217.48 using the unskilled wage
$608,194.44 using the nominal GDP per capita
$1,691,023.87 using the relative share of GDP
