1909 T-204 Ramly BOBBY WALLACE Graded 8 Nrmt-Mt

$1191 for this card, seems like a great deal knowing a PSA 8 books for $5500 what do you all think

odds are the card will grade 5-6 by either PSA or SGC, it was still a good buy. I was the underbidder and probably would have paid a bit more, but the bidding was fairly light(due to the holder) and I thought it might go cheap.

I think that a dealer in this field with over 10,000 successful transactions under his belt is an expert in assessing how to maximize his profit generation; and on this card, as on all of his cards, he has made the correct choices.

What do you think?

Gilbert,

I think your saying that he maxed out because he left the card in an 8 holder. I think he would have done much better by getting it regraded by PSA or SGC, a 5 would have been worth $1,200-1,500. a 6 $2000-2,500, this assuming there were no problems with the card to prevent grading, which can be a problem with the old ASA grades. however the card looked ok from the scans provided and I have no reason to think it wouldn't grade.

Gil...explain? Just curious. His current inventory isn't exactly "mind-blowing". A lot of unrealistic Buy It Now's and nothing in the three figures despite having over 1,200 items up. If this was graded by PSA (5 or 6), don't you think he may have gotten..perhaps more?

DJ

The buyer will certainly maximize all income from this card regardless of effort.

Well, it is certainly true that most of the cards which this seller is currently offering are comparitively trivial standing next to a Ramly, however, when I checked earlier he was offering a single Goudey Gehrig. So, I assumed that the Ramly wasn't an isolated excursion into four figure cards for this seller.

Additionally, when asked earlier whether he would guarantee that the card was not trimmed, or guarantee that it would cross over to PSA, he refused both.

Therefore, I concluded that the choice to present the card in a Accugrade holder was a calculated option, as opposed to risking an SGC rejection, for example.

Edited to add: this is the second post on this subject. The earlier one is several posts down.

I asked him if he would guarantee authenticity since I assumed that the card is altered. He said that he would. It still has value in a PSA or SGC holder graded "Authentic". However, $1.2K for the card seems high to me. But the "Authentic" market is still at the beginning, so only time will tell how the candidates for PRO will fare pricewise in legitimate holders with the "Scarlet A".

I wonder whether if faced with a choice between a trimmed card and a beater I would select wisely. And I wonder which choice is wise.

I know that I would choose the beater over a recolored card, but almost imperceptible trimming just doesn't seem so bad.

For example: recent auctions indicate that a t205 Cobb has yielded higher prices in Authentic, than the lowest numerical grade. SGC Aut: $549, 610, 1590, 621; 1: 405. PSA Aut: 350; 1: 510, 382, 492. GAI Aut: 501; 1: 435.

Thoughts?

I would have taken a chance in the 250-450 range. The card looked to have a slant cut at the top and bottom. The front looked good. If it graded a 5/6 the buyer has done real well. I e-mailed the seller too. He would not offer any type of money back if the card was trimmed. I was also alittle weary about why it was in that holder? The person said he had tons on expeirence. Wonder why it wasn't crossed over to maximize his product.

I agree with Scott. I bought about 6 ASA 8 T204 cards from Hager at a show about 15 years ago, 1 had a TTT back. They
all crossed over to PSA many years latter not at the same grade - there was one 7&5 and the rest were 6's. If the seller had crossed the card over to a 5 or I think a 6. He would have gotten a much higher price. Hager did holder and sell some trimmed cards, but I don't think this was one - Just overgraded. By the way Hager and MR. Mint had a huge and entertaining fight at the show.
