Default Polo Grounds Banner

Hey guys - My buddy sent me this picture of a banner he has in his office. It's around 8ft x 5ft. It is the banner they used to fly in order of the standings. He said he got it from his father who was FDNY in the early 1960's in Harlem. They responded to a fire at the Polo Grounds after the stadium had been abandoned and before it was torn down. He found this in the equipment room, the team must have left it behind when they moved to San Francisco. It is in excellent, almost unused condition. If anyone has a sense of what this might be worth, it would be much appreciated.

Hopefully someone can find some pictures with a similar banner in use, which could help document the fact that it is from the Polo Grounds. The scoreboard flag idea certainly has some merit judging by the size of it.

Value is a bit tougher, but as a "man cave" type of piece I think there would be a lot of interest in it if it could be positively identified as a scoreboard flag from the Polo Grounds circa 1957. I would have to think the value would be over $1,000. How much over I have no idea.

If it is what you believe it to be, it is a beautiful piece.

I don't see where it pictures of the heading of the flag; can you post a picture of this portion? Some of the flags/banners used have a maker tag somewhere on the heading portion.

Whether it's from the Polo Grounds or not it's still a nice item. I'm sure it would be worth quite a bit more if you can document the stadium.

Here is a picture of the manufacturers tag from the header of the banner. Thanks again for all the help.

As a Giants fan and retired fireman, I like that banner. I can almost see the guy stuffing it into his turnout coat. I would have been very tempted to do the same.

I'd value it at about $500. I think (but don't know for sure) it might have more value if it had seen "game use." But maybe not....

Hello...
Here's my similar S.F. Giants flag. I'm wondering if yours is double sided? When the wind changed directions it still read San Francisco. Made by Hortie Van.
Thanks,
-Andy

Hi Frank,

Thanks, I traded for this flag at one of Mark Macrae's shows in San Leandro. I don't know a thing about where it flew but right now it's literally taking an entire wall in my garage. It's quite the conversation piece.
