Default Graders - How much $ do they make?

Posted By: Mike

Yes, Kevin S., Minnesota is still a state. But, we're trying real hard to be like your state. Our crime rate is going up, our traffic is getting horible, our taxes are terrible. Now, throw in fires, earthquakes, 15M illegals, and we'll be as great as your state. Many many of the kids I went to high school with moved out there. After their kids reached school age, they all moved back. Any idea why? And yes, I know the coast cities are expensive. My sister lives two blocks off 78th and Broadway in New York C. Bought it in 78 for 28K. Recently had it appraised at $1.2M. So yes, We're still a state, but know what the rest of the country is going through. hey kevin, we even have professional sports teams WAY up here.......

"Am I the only one who thinks that 50K is still a pretty decent salary? I guess perceptions between working class and white color is VERY different".

Depends on where you live. If I lived back in Wisconsin, 50K would be a ton of money. When I lived there 3 years ago, I was making under $30,000. I know that if I would have made 50K, I would have stayed there. But I had to move where the money was. If you're only bringing in 50K in around here, you can't even buy yourself a condo. You'll be renting an apartment the rest of your life.

If so, too much info...

LA real estate prices are SICK! I bought my house 9 years ago for $280K and dumped in about $100K more to get it livable. I've been offered over a million for it as a teardown. Every other original house on our street has been torn down and replaced with a McMansion. The latest gaudy monstrosity went for over $2 million. All hypothetical money of course since I have a 5% mortgage with a relatively short remaining lifespan and no intention of moving.

And, on topic, I wouldn't ming being a grader. I'm a tad anal/meticulous as it is, and prying over every pore of a card would probably be interesting for a while...I'd like the high end of the pay scale though!

If a house is under $1.3mm and has at least .75 of an acre, generally speaking its a tear-down in my town.

Housing markets driven by Wall St. which is booming with traders/bankers making well into the millions annually. They want big houses not only in the commuting suburbs but also is driving Hamptons real estate higher as well.

In the Hamptons the $3 million and up homes are hot...but the measly million dollar ones are soft. It's all high end money driving it.

james- just depends on where you live...i'd imagine $50K in Iowa would be a great salary...but in NYC or LA it is not much, unfortunetly...cost of living & bills are thru the roof.

$50,000 is a decent salary. It's the cost of living that is indecent.

Median price for a house on Oahu is around $675,000. Glorified coffee shacks (not yet rotting) close to Honolulu go for eight-or-nine hundred thousand, mostly because of the land value. Overall cost of living is a good bit higher than the mainland and life is tough on a lot of people here. The leeward coast of Oahu has homeless tent cities that literally stretch for miles. (The Hawaii Visitors Bureau would rather you didn't know this). No joke.

(Leon is out back taking a leak).

Michael- we are still only three so far.

But guess who just stopped by for an unexpected visit? Hank Levy. He was doing some work in the neighborhood so he rang me up and sat for a spell. It was nice to see him.

It's a tad pricey here, as the Canadian dollar is nearly on par with the USD

To put it all in perspective, my step mom lives in a smaller town in Montana. A three bedroom, three car garage, two bath, etc. etc. goes for about $60,000 to $70,000. It's enough to make a grown man cry....That house in my neighborhood would be about $350,000.

Cool Leon...I can pee in my yard, and no one can see me either !!! But since I live on a lake, I choose not to pee in the water..or in the yard. My dog might think it's odd.

A million dollar house in my town would be huge and my guess is there are not too many. I know there are probably some (Larry the cable guy, Bill Callahan and some powerball winners to name a few) but you can build a house here very cheaply.

I lived in NYC for 17 years, and moved out to Long Island 11 years ago. Worst decision was selling and not renting out the condo on the corner of the West Side Highway and Perry St. Now however, I have a large house on 2 acres about a 90-second drive from the Sound (In Suffolk Cnty.) My house has tripled in price since then, but nothing like the condo has.

I'll see a grader next weekend, and ask him what he makes. If I wanted to know real estate values, I wouldn't be looking here. BTW, I built my own log home in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of PA. I'll entertain trades for a Wagner. Thanks.

Scott is out, and when I mentioned it to Hank he didn't respond either way. Do you just want to have dinner Monday with the three of us? Would Jeff, or any other regular, like to join us? I am in, assuming I don't end up eating alone. We don't need a reservation for a small group.

Okay- here's the deal. Michael and I are having dinner Monday night in Brooklyn, say around 6:30-7:00. Joe also sounds like he will be there. Anybody else who wants to join just email me between now and Monday afternoon and we'll work out the details. Anybody can come straight to my apartment if they want and we'll walk over. Or they can meet us directly at the Waterfront around 6:45, which is at 155 Atlantic Avenue between Clinton and Henry Streets. Sound good?
