Default Rare T206 Upside Down Back Southern League Post if u Own One

Hello All!

Who ever won the T206 Carlos Smith Upside Down O.M. Southern League in the Goodwin Auction got, imho, a killer deal! went super cheap! 3K or so with the juice...I think that was a 5-6 K card + easily should have gone....considering brown om will go 2 x that value probably....

Please post if you own one of these rarities(southern league Uppy O.M. printers scrap)....these are 2 X rarer than BROWN OM and have not even been recognized.....they are similar to brown om in the fact that they are all survivors of a printers scrap sheet...

there are approx. 12-15 examples of Brown OM known to exist...

there are approx. 4 or so known uppy OM Southern Leaguers known to exist...
these were all hand cut from one sheet obviously...

Brown OM had an ink differentiation....Uppy's had a backwards print set up..

HART, THEBO, SMITH, KING....

are the examples I have seen so far.....I own the THEBO(Thank GOD

my pic will follow shortly

While upside down backs are very cool, in my opinion they are in a different category than brown Old Mill for the simple reason that if somebody is going for a complete T206 back run of 39, they need the brown Old Mill but they do not need the upside down back. There are more back run collectors than error collectors. Just me .02, and not meant to take anything away from the coolness or rarity of upside down backs.

Default Jim....

just trying to point out the parallel with Brown OM on scarcity level......they are pretty much essentially different species in the same phylum? technically brown om is an "error" same as uppy om

Here's one of the 4 known examples. Thanks to Chris for the deal...I've since had SGC put "upside down back" on the flip.

Isn't Leon's scrap an upside down back brown OM?

For the record, I hate the term 'uppy'.

JV- good call. i actually already use that (USDB) whenever i email Chris about them...let's make that the new term. not sure i've made it clear enough how much i hate "uppy".

Leon- isn't that a brown OM USDB in there?

No, actually the back pic you have shown is upside down so if turned over correctly it is the Cy Young portrait that is upside down and the Brown Old Mill is right side up.

If this question was for me it's because I like seeing Cy's head right side up instead of upside down..

Retired (from collecting too), living on Cocoa Bch, longboarding, drinking carrot juice and soaking up rays!

Incidentally, I lived in the Upham's Corner hood of Boston when I was a kid. We called it "Uppies" for short. So, I like your term.

Interesting that these 4 are part of a subgroup of 14 SLers that do not show up with brown Hindu backs. They are definitely linked.

Default Upside down SL Old Mill ?!

Guys - Great stuff... Here's my contribution to the upside down Old Mill SLer's thread. Of course its not a T206, but this player was part of the original 8 SL proofs from the T206 set, so you can't get much closer than that...

I just had heart palpatations(not kidding)......

I'M BLIND!

OMG.....next to having a Wagner....a literal dream for me is to own a T206 Proof/non production card/ issued....or a design change proof...

you can ask a few members how I feel about a T206 proof/ design/ non issued / produced/ new player ....

words can not describe that card...

I hate to ask.....but I would like to be the first if you ever decide to part with it...I have a lot to trade,

I'm still blown away....

Johnny, if you mean that Pepe proof, it belongs to Keith Olbermann. So good luck with that.

I'll PM you tomorrow when I have more time.

Haha...Johnny, go do a shot of Patron and cool down.

I believe there are only 8 (or 9) non-production proofs in existence, and KO owns all of them. they were sold as a lot in a Lelands Auction circa 1999. they were Charlie Sheen's, i think.

LOL... Glad you didn't palpitate for too long over that Pepe proof! I put in the comments beside it "I wished I owned KO's proof." I am betting you glossed over that and just went straight to the Eye Candy! Hilarious... Mr. Olberman also has the other 7 SL Proofs. Incredible.
