Default Best ‘LOL’ cards of 2024

How do some cards like this come to be? To each their own. Juxtaposed to threads of highly scarce or high graded gems many can never own, let’s have some fun sharing 2024’s best LOL condition cards of the every day collector.

It's quite frankly absurd, but there's something for everyone.

I honestly don't know why this has gotten so high in price. What's the appeal?

It's the cheapest that one has sold on eBay lately so someone who wanted to fill a hole and didn't want to spend a lot more is probably happy they got it.

The winner is likely both a Mickey Mantle and Leatherface collector.

Thanks. Now I'm picturing an Ed Gein Relic card: the insert nobody asked for.

Like the other thread on this sale, it's almost certainly just a set collector finishing their set on a budget. Good luck finding another 53 Mantle for $611. This is normal, very popular cards in popularly collected sets have their low grade values lifted. Budget set collectors are a lot of the hobby, they just don't tend to post on the boards much, maybe because people like to LOL at their budget or the condition they can afford.

Makes me regret passing on a creased up crapper of this same card for $200 years ago. My friend who owned the store tried to convince me “ it’s the Mick”. I just wasn’t feeling it with the creases. I guess he was right.

I think this might be the first time in all my years on here that I have had the good/borderline questionable integrity fortune of a thread that lines up perfectly with something I have listed on the BST, in the $1 Start Auction category that ends tonight at 8pm CST...a 1964 Topps of Mickey Mantle with a prison teardrop tattoo print defect.

I promise to refund the winning bidder for any amount bid over $661.

It's most likely set filler, but this is the kind of thing that people with too much money might actually buy as a gag gift for a fellow collector.

I think pretty much everyone has their regrets, of cards they didn't pick up before the COVID Boom. I sure as hell know I do!

I understand the importance and sense of accomplishment of completing a set, but the face doesn't even look like Mantle. It looks like it was erased and then redrawn. I just don't see the point of set collecting, if you can't look at all the cards and see the actual card and how it was created in all its beauty.

Whatever you do, don't call that one "Scrapps Tobacco" or you're bound to get some people angry! It wasn't a tobacco issue!

Sadly, I kind of find this cool.

If it was 500 bucks, but we all know that's not happening.

It's Mantle, he defies logic to begin with. The perfect blend of larger than life talent, personality, mystique and nostalgia is all what attracts his collectors (myself included).

I certainly wouldn't want that, but I bet you someone will.

Cool. It's the 1/1 Scrapps Tobacco ScissorFractor parallel.
