While I can't say I've owned one, I have kept an eye out for them for many years. They seem to be as tough to find as anything in that era. I've seen more Esskays and Briggs (which isn't very many at all) in recent years than I've seen Hunters ...

I've seen more Hunters, then Esskay's, then least of the three Briggs, although none are seen very often. Felin's Franks are even tougher, IMHO.

I too have seen more Hunters than Briggs and Esskays this year...Felin Franks are nearly nonexistent and have not seen one in many years.

I list them in decending order; Briggs, Hunters, Esskay then Felins. I had 9 Hunters in inventory at one time and have never had as many of any of the others at once. I see Briggs offered more that the others combined, even though this is very few.

I put together a full set the hard way before EBAY one at a time through shows and SCD ads and auctions. It took me about 10 years (1985 -1995). The 1953s are not as tough as the 1955s which are easier than the 1954s. I have about half of the 1955s and one third of the 1954s. I've been working on these sets for 20 years.

Occasionally you might see one or all 3 of these sets up for auction but it is usually an undistributed ( and very beautiful) set that goes for tens of thousands of dollars.

How rare are these cards compared to the Peter's Meat set issued in 1961 with Twins players on them? I used to own the set that Gavin Riley put together on full panels, unfolded.

Ed-

Are you the attorney from KC that Randy Cook reccommended? I think I may know where there are a few of them back in my southern Illinois hometown. I am making a trip in a couple of weeks and hopefully will find out.

I have seen more 1953 Hunters over the past few years than Esskays or Briggs. However Felins are a whole different ballgame.

I collect all of the sets and would be interested in any that people would part with.

Thanks a lot for the scans. As discussed before when you put up the Esskays, there are two collectors (one of whom you sold to) who about a year ago started driving the Esskay prices. This has not happened with the Briggs or the 1953 Hunters sets as I have picked up a bunch of these for $50-$150 over the past year.

Ed -

I would be very interested to learn more about your experiences with the Hunters sets. I would especially be intrigued to hear about the presentation sets and possibly what auctions they were in. I have only been collecting these for 2 years so my experience is much more limited. Thanks a lot.

- Dan

I have struck out on remebering which auction house offered these. I do recall seeing them at a National before the auction. They were beautiful.
