Default Blue Ribbon Malts

Posted By: Addie_Joss

Anyone know anything about this issue? Just picked up a few this weekend but haven't seen them before or know much about them. The cards look like Kashin's but on the bottom under the photo they say "Compliments Of Blue Ribbon Malt - Americans Biggest Seller".

Had some at one time, actually they're a bit bigger than Kashin's. Only a few (maybe 10?)in the set, which is strictly Cubs and ChiSox. Blank backs. If I recall Hack Wilson is the biggest name.

I picked up the Wilson card and 2 others. I paid almost nothing, just 50 total. Did I pay what these are worth or did I get a deal?

Just looked 'em up in SCD...should measure 4 7/8" x 6 7/8". Wilson is listed @ $37 VG, $62 EX, $125 NM. others are $27/$45/$90. I'd say you did OK!

That's an excellent price for those cards.

BTW, you have there the 1931 Blue Ribbon Malts, which is a very small set-- maybe 5-6 totsl. They are the ones that have the caption that says "BRM". The 1930 series is much bigger (25-30 Cubs and 15-20 known White Sox) and contains no advertising.

Blue Ribbons are among the nicest 1930s premiums I've ever seen, and I am interested eventually in doing an article on them. If anyone has some, I would appreciate a heads-up.

Thanks,
Tim
