Default Longest Time to Complete a Trade?

Posted By: James Feagin

What is the longest time it's taken you to complete a trade? I'm currently in negotiations with a board member and it's taken over a month with constant communication. Luckily, it's always been friendly and he's a great guy. We're both a little stubborn I guess . What's the longest it's taken for you to complete a trade?

James

Default Longest Time to Complete a Trade?

Nice thread.
Most of my trades take less then a week, but I did have one that I worked on for almost 3 weeks before it fell apart. The other party kept changing his valuation system - from Standard Catalog value to VCP prices to what his friends told him the cards were worth. It got too frustrating to keep re-working the deal every time he changed his mind.

I'm not sure if this counts since the negotiation part of the trade was easy, but the actual delivery of the cards to me has been frustrating, thanks to our USPS friends.

Fortunately this package has tracking, but trying to get it to me in Boston is like watching a tennis match...

I did some screaming a few days ago, and it looks like it might actually get to me today though!

Default Longest Time to Complete a Trade?

In the early eighties I was trying to get a '79 Bob Horner from my best friend. He was trying to kill me because it was his rookie and it booked for a dollar. I kept claiming he sucked and my offer of 10-20 '79s for Horner was more than fair. A few months ago he included it in some cards I was sending in for grading for him. That puts it at 25+ years for me.

IF I remember correctly one of our board members has been working on getting a collection for over 30 years...He is a California collector/dealer and I don't care to mention his name too much....though he is one of the most intelligent hobbyists I know...and a great guy to boot. Besides that the collector that bought my FBH Kelly has been working on me for about 3-4 yrs for it......regards

I believe Russ Bright and I took nearly a year to complete a trade not too long ago. Communication was fine and both parties ended up happy. Problem was that we are BUSY people with a real life outside of baseball cards. (My wife wouldn't agree with that though!) Between him moving in the process, me having another addition in the family, Russ having an addition to his family, no money, and no time, it took nearly a year!

Scott, just out of curiousity I wouldn't mind seeing a scan of the address and postage/postmark on that package.

In the end we were able to make a deal that made sense for both sides.
