Since REA's blog doesn't have a link to Net54, which is by far the best place to talk about vintage cards on the net, I felt it appropriate to reciprocate. That is all.....best regards

huh?

With all due respect Leon, as I think you do a marvelos job moderating this board, I really do not understand your rationale for making this decision. I assume this board is for the users to talk about cards and have easy access to sites, auction houses, dealers, etc. Just because an auction did not promote this site means we should not have an easy access link to them? That does not really seem like a positive, board friendly move. I naturally only speak for myself, but that response sounds vindictive and arbitrary and hardly in the spirit of what this board is supposed to be about. REA is a class operation, and Rob Lfison is a hobby icon, I simply do not agree, nor really understand the stance you are taking here.

Disclosure - I have no financial or personal interest in REA.

Rob

Is it April 1st?

Couple of thoughts

1. Maybe REA should be more like H&S and they could get 2 links.

2. Are all auction houses with no link to Net54 now banned?

http://www.lelands.com/relatedLinks.aspx

3.Seems to me that the fine line is being gradually blurred.

EDITED TO ADD -- Why not put this to a vote.

I have never won anything from those 3 houses, but I am on their mailing lists.

I agree too.

Lets take down the ones who have admitted to altering cards in the past.

If anyone should have a link it should by Rob.

Leon- so you're saying that EVERY company that you have provided a link for on your "vintage links" page, has a link for Net54 on their site, as well?

Wow.....Usually i agree with you Leon.

But is this tit for tat ? Is it because of competition ? Meaning another advertiser would prefer them gone.

Not good. Amongst the auction house's in the banner ad's. I believe REA has everyone's trust.

Can't say that about the proverbial 800lb gorilla.

I agree with the previous posts--the REA link should be included. Omitting the link does not benefit users of this board.

Still in the Auction links section, but dead:

www.baseballvintage.com
www.vintageauthenticsauctions.com

Also, Huggins and Scott gets two links for no reason.

So does Heritage, because "Slater's Americana" -- whatever that was -- is now linked to Heritage.

Does any regular poster here actually go to the vintage links page to find links to auction houses???

A link from the Net54 boards to REA does more for search engine ranking than giving visitors here an easy path to their web site.

I am assuming there used to be a link from REA to this board that was removed for some reason or there was an agreement between Leon and REA to place such a link but the REA link was never placed. I think we should give Leon the benefit of the doubt before we start demanding the link be restored.

"Does any regular poster here actually go to the vintage links page to find links to auction houses???"

Then get rid of the auction section.

I found Mastro and all the other auction houses too long before there were links or advertising - thats not the point.

"There had to be an ulterior motive here."

Well, REA did take a shot at this board/Leon in his blog referencing industry links. However, I agree with most in that I would like to see the link back. I do actually use this site to link to the auctions rather than having to bookmark 10-15 sites.

It would be ironic to say the least if the Auction House with the best reputation among collectors was the only one excluded.

I can't see how people are defending this move as a positive thing.

There is always talk about how new people are coming to this board all the time for knowledge and information about vintage cards. REA is a walking example of that and it's wrong to exclude them. Personal matter(s) should not affect how the board is run as a whole.

Guys,

Usually I'll side with Leon, but in this situation, he's going to have to come up with a better reason than the one he gave us.

I'm sure that Net54 members believe that we are the board for pre-war cards. If that is the case then they need to associate with the best auction houses and having links to their websites is a start.

"Forum Owner"

Now boys (since Joann hasn't chimed in) that says it all for me. With a flip of a switch all of us could be back to work without this place to engage in the discussion of vintage baseball cards.

I'm with Tom on this one. Short memories abound around here.

And as for bookmarks, come on now, group all of the auction sites under one heading. I personally would find it a little unwieldy to have to come here for an auction link when I already have all of them bookmarked.

As a postscript, I do however find it a little ironic that at least one poster to this thread who has a website link under Vintage Links does not have a link back to this site.

My first instinct is to say "all right" the link is gone that makes it more difficult for others to find the auction. But something's just not right with that.

I think that the link should be restored. Yes, this bull board is arguably THE best resource for collectors of vintage cards but I don't think that the lack of a link to OUR website (on their part) deserves for their link to be removed. This is a RESOURCE for information. Removing them removes an important resource.

Steve,

You may have them bookmarked but for thoswe that are less tech savvy like me I don't know what a bookmark is and I rely of centralized listings to find things.

Jeff,

Why?

I would prefer that the link be restored so that the board could provide a full range of public serives to us members. But as long as someone alerts the group when the catalogs are out and the auction is running, I don't think anyone will suffer any loss with this.

Take note of the section on the suggested "links" to only ONE card chat site due to concerns that the "other" sites (I imagine this one to be included) were possibly subject to editing or self-serving interests.........

I could give a rat's ass whose links are up there or not. Most of them get enough PR by sending endless emails and mailings and they can certainly afford to pay for advertising to promote their enterprises.

I'm satisfied with what Leon has told us so far. Also, since I never win anything in REA auctions, it really doesn't make much of a difference to me personally.

I'm in 100% agreement with Leon here. It's his Board and if he is supporting someone with free publicity and that person for some reason refuses to repay the favor with a link of their own, screw them. I would feel a bit insulted as well. Leave the Moderator alone.

There is way too much being made about this. Is it really that important? I mean really? How about bookmarking their auctions or staying abreast of the latest news with their e-mails.

DJ

Its not that people can't markbook or whatever its called--REA is a leading auction house; Rob has been in the forefront of trying to promote positive change when it comes to the practices of other auction houses; it seems Net 54 should go out of its way to accomodate him by at the very least listing his auction site.

I am not an anti-Leon guy-for example I think he should try to make even more money than he is off of this board--but there is a difference between right and wrong here--and this is just fundamentally wrong.

Net54 does not remove Mastronet when they flat out admit that they alter cards yet REA is removed because he does not list Net54??? It cannot be.

I have bought from Leon and REA and only have positive things to say.
They both have web sites and are easy to find. I don't see the need for a link.
I thought everybody bookmarked the sites (vintage links) they needed.

At last count I think that Rob (REA) has 63.785% of the active email addresses of the world, excluding those registered in Wales, Angola and I believe, Congo. Everyone will know when Rob (REA) has something to auction or has one of his manifestos to impart upon us.

As suggested, I guess this is fair warning for everyone who reads the board to bookmark REA's site on their own computers. I support Leon's decision to remove the link.

Anyone here want to be moderator for a day? I think you should cut him some slack.
