Default REA Wagner

FYI- I'm sure most everyone has identified the Wagner listed in REA this week as #9 in the Wagner Sales History. The smudge on the card back makes it obvious.

Since some knucklehead had it re-graded, I hope that those authorities upstream from me and everyone else keeps the totals straight.

Current SGC no' 1242674-001 previously 1377206-001

Sold for $227,050 on 5/2/2008

up to 350K right now...

but I still hate the 'bigger' dollar cards getting regarded...it skews details.

so Xskews ME!

It's an excellent opportunity to own the holy grail and I watch intently everytime one of the big three pop up like this but I don't get the constant regrading of these cards.

My guess is that the regrading happens when cards like this change hands as a way to be sure they aren't fake. If I spent $450,000 on something I think I would spend the extra few hundred bucks to have PSA guarantee that the card is the real deal and not a really good copy from Mexico.

You buy this card at an auction like REA and its PSA or SGC graded. I think I would be ok with its authenticity.

I agree, you probably are ok. However, when spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on a card why not spend the extra $700 to be 100% certain that you got what you paid for? This is just a guess and there may be a better explanation - what are internet messgae boards for if not for throwing out guesses?

Oh, I hear ya. But wouldn't PSA, confirm the card without replacing the holder? Sometimes I get the feeling it's a bit of a shell game. I personally only want PSA graded cards and ODU came across that Wagner or Plank and it was in a SGC holder I would probably swap it. Then again that's a problem I doubt I will ever have. I will one day get my Magie, but the Wagner is far from my grasp.

T206s are almost physically impossible to replicate with modern technology. If I was handed a card and told "real or fake?" with a gun to head I hope it's a t206.

Edit: I would also assume if SGC graded this card twice, the first was removed from the pop report. I assume, only.

The regrade has nothing to do with authenticity. It is all about PSA Registry bragging rights.

Cheers,
