Default 1897 Reccius Team Photo

Posted By: David Davis

Not sure if this photo I recently acquired has anything to do with the Reccius of Honus Wagner fame, but the name is pretty distinct. Photo was taken in 1897; mine was a print made in 1941. Honus isn't pictured, but could be food for thought for more knowledgable people on this board.

Very interesting photo on a few fronts. I think Honus is sitting down behind the guys in the back row....

Default 1897 Reccius Team Photo

Remember... Henry Reccius (the ciagr maker) had two
older brothers (Phil and John) who played professional ball in Lousiville in the early 1890's:

Given the date of this photo (1897), they must
have gone on to form a semi-pro team and then
perhaps their brother used the team to advertise
his cigar-making company??

I can't make out the names at the bottom...

but it almost looks like the guy in the suit
is listed as "H. Reccius."

If so, then Henry was definitely using
this team to help advertise his business.

Hal,
I believe it is an "H", although even the photo I have is blurry; not just my scan.
