Default Good Reference Books on Vintage Cards!

I am looking for a reference book with images of vintage cards. Is there any book out there like this? I am interested in N-172 Old Judges images.

There aren't many places to find alot of Old Judge images. Lew Lipset's Encyclopedia of Baseball Cards Vol 1 has some (including several rare cards). There is a coffee table book by Frank Slocum that has alot of images of vintage cards including Old Judges. I would also suggest looking at old catalogs. Mastro especially does a good job of picturing representative cards of major Old Judge lots. If there is a particular player or card you are looking for I might be able to help you. You can reach me at curl777@aol.com.

The Library of Congress has a nice collection on line, with lots of OJ images.

Here's the link:

http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/bbhtml/

Just click the "Card Set" option, go in and find the Old Judge link, and you'll have enough images to keep you busy for awhile. Plus you have your choice of 3 sizes: thumbnail sketches, nice size scans that are as good or better than most of EBay, or monster-size uncompressed images that take several years to load.

Frank Slocum's book is great too and has a lot more pictures than the Library of Congress site. But the Library of Congress has images ready for your use. Depends on what why you want the pictures.

Good luck,
Tom

If you are looking for a coffee table book by Frank Slocum. There's one currently available on eBay. It is a very helpful book if you are looking for images as references and you are not a billionnaire.

I got mine for $%40 (half price), but that was several years ago. There must be 150-200 phoptos of Old Judges in it (not to mention almost every other major set between 1887-1956, except Topps).
