Default Question about 1938 Cartledge Glossy vs. Matte finish

I can't find a decent answer anywhere, so I thought I would come to the experts for help. I apologize if boxing isn't supposed to be a 54 topic. I am just a casual reader/poster, and don't know if other sports are typically talked about.

My question is about 1938 Cartledge Razor Famous Prize Fighters cards. There are two finishes, Matte and Glossy. Population reports tend to tell me that the Glossy finish was released at a rate of around 20% of the more common Matte finish. Am I right? And then a value question. What premium do the Glossy finish cards bring, if any?

I picked up a Glossy Schmeling PSA 8 recently. SMR is $80, but I am assuming that SMR only prices the Matte finish.

Thanks for any help!

John

Boxing's not quite like baseball. Not quite as much intensity focused on lesser variations, especially on the more common British sets.

I've never seen a premium on one or the other, and I'd wager...(unless this set has become way more popular then I've realized in the last few years), that SMR is ridiculously high on this card.

Somebody may come along to prove me wrong however.

Default Thanks

Thanks, Dave, I think you are right on the mark with your comments. SMR does tend to way over-value these cards, and I have not seen higher or lower sales for either finish. John
