Default Super Rare 1948 Old Gold Jackie Robinson Rookie (Catching Variation) PSA 6

I have a 1948 Jackie Robinson Old Gold (catching ball vairation) graded by PSA. There are currently only 3 graded by PSA, mine being the highest graded, at a PSA 6 EX-MT.

The card is seemingly priceless due to it's rarity. The more common kneeling in dugout version commonly sells for approx. $100 per 1 point (ie PSA1=$100, 2=$200, etc...) Obviously the rarity of this issue increases that a good bit.

I'm not 100% sure exactly what the value is and am strongly considering consigning to an auction house...any suggestions or insight?

Ive owned 2 of them over the years, they are tough.

I would say (guess) at least 25X tougher is not more.

I actually was the one who reported this variation to Lemke years ago for the SCD Standard Catalog checklist.

The ones I sold were in the 2002-2005 Era and they sold then for about 3X what a comparable "dugout" card sold for.

PS the year is most likely 1947 on both cards, if you read the back of the "dugout" card it states he was born "28 years ago"
Dont have a scan of the back of the "Jumping" card anymore so dont know if it says his age, but I do know the back bio is different on both cards.

The value of the Old Gold cards along with the 1947 D305 Bond Bread Robinson have jumped lately.... more people are into collecting Jackie's true "rookies", far tougher than those overrated Bowman and Leaf cards of 1949.

Does anybody know / have any information regarding how these cards were distributed?

I’m assuming they didn’t come in packs of cigarettes due to their size.

Were they given out by shop owners as promotional tools? I have seen a promotional 8x10 with Jackie for Old Gold Cigarettes, but I’m wondering if these served as another means of promo.
