For once people decided not to deal with anyone short of Satan just because they saw a deal.

I say he sold it to the highest bidder offline just like he did a lot of tough non-sports cards. That bidder is going to crack it open, float it in some distilled water and pull that paper off the back, dry it and then get it re-encapsulated and sell it for 2X what he paid RIck for it. Hopefully anyway.....

I thought of that too but Rick's too smart to leave that much money on the table if he thought there was any chance the paper would soak off. I suspect that it is permanently attached and any attempt to remove it would take the back off it as well.

he's THAT smart.......he left a lot of money on the table on a non-sports lot he sold before the auction ended......not JAX type of money here if it could be soaked but a lot. It would be a huge gamble but the payoff would be in the thousands.....especially if it'd get a 'real' grade and not auth.

Matt,

FYI, the card was sold to someone other than me for $14,000. I called and asked them why they ended the auction because I was the high-bidder and they said they had sold it off ebay for $14,000.

Charlie,

I didn't see either Dan or Matt reference you (unless some posts were deleted). Did I miss something. The way I read it, any negativity was directed at Broadway Rick, not you.

charlie,

good to know it sold for 14k. the buyer is def not shelling out 14k to leave the card in an altered holder...better keep scans just in case. i had a snipe on it but i certainly wasn't willing to go 14k.

I think I am the only Dan here Charlie but I have no idea what you are talking about. I was referencing my good friend Rick who had the card for sale when I posted. So unless you are talking about someone else, I guess we will just have to have a problem because I don't see anything to retract and I don't even see how you are connected to this thread. Dan.

I was wondering the same thing when I clicked on this...not sure what Dan did or anybody else did for that matter accusing Charlie of anything. Maybe I'm missing something?

I think I see what Charlie meant! You thought I was talking about you Charlie! too funny. You were winning it at the time I guess but the auction was ended early with reserve not met so that to me means the seller didn't sell it. Once again I was speaking about Rick but obviously your conscience must have gotten the best of you to attack me like that. I do accept apologies though.
Sorry Charlie (isn't that a Tuna commercial?) I wasn't speaking about you as I was unaware that you would do anything like that but Rick has actually been busted and had articles written about his antics. Dan.

Dan,

My fault. I read the post wrong. I will edit my post. Must have been one too many late-night Starbucks Latee's.

Wake up and go back to bed. It works every time for me.....I still think that was a steep price while not knowing the exact issue(s) with the back.....

Florida Rick sold the card altered and only authenticated for $14,000 ????
Wow, seems like a huge price and way out of my thinking for what it should be worth. I could really care less what he got for the card but the thing that impacts me is that I need this card to complete my E90-1 set and have been on the lookout for a decent PSA 1 or 2 and now the price for it slipped further in to the stratosphere based on this sale

Bob- you might not want to use this sale as a barometer for all future sales.

I consigned an E90-1 Jackson SGC Authentic (trimmed) in the 2007 REA Auction and was very disappointed with the ($3,750 + juice) sale price.

Bob,

This price is not going to raise the bar. Someone, and we can rule out Charlie, paid up as they feel they can get the card to grade. Looked like a nice card and someone may have gotten themselves a deal. I think nice 1's are going for about 7K, which is what I was selling my 3's for a couple of years ago.

Greg
