At first glance I thought it was a new updated Ted Williams card.

Pretty sure its a Goudey.

They have been doing this for a while but I don't think I have seen a pre-war card yet. I have a Ted Williams cut that is from a pinicle card (1990s) I had a Fergie Jenkins card that was a cut from an 81 donruss.

Those are some of the worst looking IMO, they never bother with how it will look and the players heads are always cut off. In this case I would rather the auto be closer to the bottom if I got the players head in the image.

It's a shame they are destroying all this crap but I don't know what will stop it.

It is an autographed 1933 Goudey reprint [thank goodness...]


Though I have seen a Tristar cut autograph product use autographed 50's Topps cards

It's a 1933 Goudey.

Thing is, looking at how white the borders are, I think it's a Goudey reprint that was signed. Moore died in 2001, so he was alive when the set was reprinted by, I think it was, The Card Collectors Co.

All that said, it still looks stupid!

Heck, I've seen some of those Upper Deck cut autograph cards, where the card they cut up was a Perez-Steele postcard!

It's funny that they would do this with players such as Moore, who lived forever and were very responsive signers. Also, Moore's signature on a 3X5 certainly fits within card companies' understandable limitations on sizing (unlike, say, latter-day Frankie Frisch, whose signature took up a great deal of space on a 3X5).

Moore was another one of my ballplayer friends. I tried to dig up a picture from the one visit I had with him, but can't locate it. He was a deacon in his church for decades and as fine a man as they come. A fire destroyed most of his memorabilia, but perhaps the greatest piece managed to survive: a baseball signed, "For Joe Moore, Franklin D. Roosevelt". Right up to the end, it was kept on a small table beside the chair in which he sat.

It makes me wonder..Who comes up with the stupid idea to do this to the cards?I guess they try whatever they think will make them the most $$$$.....
