What book is most needed?

After reading the thread about the T206 book, it brought a question to mind . . . what book covering vintage cards (or silks, or pins) is most needed by collectors? In other words, what subject SHOULD be covered? What would be most helpful to collectors?

We definitely lack a book on Bread Cards.

Lipset didn't get around to it, but left us with great material covering many of the other types.

Who's going to write something on D Cards?

I'd have to agree with old judges, or possbily a book that goes into great depth on some of the overall rarest issues, like the rarest of the rare from 1869-1969, that'd be very intresting and open peoples eyes to lots of unusual and rare issues.

I would love to see a comprehensive book on the Old Judge cards, but I would bet the bigtime collectors of that issue don't want to see one. And unfortunately to have a comprehensive guide one of those "bigtimers" is going to have to cooperate.

N-cards

Many of the players portrayed are forgotten legends; a well done mainstream publication is needed. From Anson to Ward, Allen & Ginter to Yum-Yum, a comprhensive story is welcomed.

I agree that the 19th century documentation can use improvement, but for me, before I move on Id like to summarize what I already have; or don't have.

Specifically, between vcbc, beckett vintage, lipsett's old judge updates, old cardboard, sabr and other contributors to our body of knowledge, this information is so poorly assembled that it is almost lost to us. I would like to generate a table of contents (actually, I prefer someone else to do it - but if supported, I will) which will define what exists and where it exists.

So, if you seek supplemental information on a set, the table of contents will define the publication and article available.

Another category Lew didn't get to, that includes sets not many in number but major in importance--

M116
all the M101 Sporting News sets, which all have mysteries
M114 Police Gazette (though John Esch's recent article is great!)
etc.

Old Judges definitely need a book of their own for the N172s - but I find information on the N173s sorely lacking, and wish that there was somewhere I could go for good information.

I say we nominate Joe G of Detroit OJ fame to write this book. He should include some n173 info which i also would like to see and the sets tie in well with each other.

Another idea for a book which would mostly just interest board members would be one that profiles board members collections.Although its not a likely thing to happen id still love to see some of the best and most diverse collections displayed in book form.It would be like that new book that was discussed a couple weeks back but it would focus solely on cards

John, you do realize I have little to offer without Jay Miller, Bob Richardson, and some of my other OJ partners in crime. We have been discussing some interesting ideas, but the ink has yet to hit the paper. That's all I'll say at this point.

I know you dont know everything on your own Joe but you seem to be the best writer when it comes to Old Judge cards.Technically im sure i could write something on my own that isnt in depth but if i were too make my own Old Judge book,id try to get all the scans of each pose,then include a brief biography on each player. Basically one page per player with scans of their cards unless its a hall of famer or interesting player then give them a couple pages.It would have some OJ info but it would focus mainly on the players themselves.

I guess on the pages where nothing is known about the player there will be helpful did you know facts about the set

Of course i dont have all the scans so feel free to steal my idea anyone
