Default SUPER-rare

Through all the baseball cards, I think the impulse buy of a lot of 1941 Superman Bread cards may be the most rare cards I own. I know of 1 complete set out there, and several one off cards, but of the 3 1940 issues, they turn up the least. Gum card are most prevalent, followed by leader novelty cards out of NYC, then the regional bread/radio Junior Defense League cards. If anyone has any, shoot me a DM, I'm trying to hunt them down!

Sorry, my card(Shotwell Dauss) is packed away for awhile. I only have the front on scan. Of interest, unless some new information is available, there have only been 3 total Baseball Shotwell cards that have surfaced. Other 2 being Babe Ruth and Jacobson.

There's one in the current REA, PSA 1.5. It will be interesting to see where it ends up. The marketing of it as "highest graded" is a bit of an irrelevancy given the SGC 80, but that's a nit I won't pick.

Adam,
Coooool!
There is so much, un-tapped history; connecting Old Put, the General and our hobby; with the E98 back stamp; just another, of my dive projects.
And I've got a few, ....

So happy to re-acquire this one, and even though I had to give up a nice card, my collecting tastes tilt this way.
I remember when I acquired it the first time. I am pretty sure I overvalued it by multiples ....not good when selling.

Was that "Linblad" card released, or is it some sort of proof or something?

Default 1906 NY Giants bottles

Here is the Matthewson bottle from the 6 bottle set, which i purchased in the Halper Sothebys auction. I have not seen any other examples of these. Thought they were really interesting, cool and unique and would display great. My wife had other ideas! Enjoy them nonetheless.

How rare. Don't know for sure, but I think it's a Koester Bread D383 hand cut from a promotional poster due to the thickness of the card stock.

Needless to say, I think it will remain in the family.

Default Not sure it's a Johnny Bench Card but...

I just bought a Johnny Bench Jamesway piece that I thought was kind of neat, but it seems to be an uncatalogued promo issue (the only good info I could find about it was in this forum). Not sure it can even really be considered a card, but it feels like a card more than just a photo, so I'm calling it a card! Similar or identical pictures were used in Shillito and Kenwood Plaza cards that were distributed at around the same time.

Long-time stalker, first-time poster by the way!

This is an astounding thread; glad you guys revived it.

Howzabout some signed cards?

1921 Kamm, nice. Signed, rare.

Paige Browns TI, tough. Signed, rare

1923 W515 Dempsey signed, twice

Rush:

Yeah, it ain't a card but...

MCA RIP

Hi, I have included a listing for your card from the 2011 Standard Catalog. The card you have here is extremely hard to find.

There is exactly one known orange Close Candy E94 in existence for each of the players. I believe 7 cards are not known to exist, but of the rest of the 1/1 oranges, I am fortunate to own 5 of them.
NOTE- these are not to be confused with the orange Anonymous E98s or the red Close Candy E94s. I could go on for hours about the theories on their production, etc but that’s been hashed out years ago.

Just got today, only one ever made...SGC long ago graded it down for rounded corners which, as a playing card, was intended....presume PSA or SGC would grade it way up now...

NOTE- these are not to be confused with the orange Anonymous E98s or the red Close Candy E94s. I could go on for hours about the theories on their production, etc but that’s been hashed out years ago.
For folks who collect the set, the net54 E94 Orange thread is a fantastic read.

Cool.
Thank you, Phil and Bob.

Thank you for posting that excerpt from the 2011 Standard Catalog! I have the 2008 catalog---and I apparently cannot use an index properly because I missed the entry in that year's catalog the first time I searched for it, but I digress----the only documented Jamesway card in the 2008 version was the Pete Rose card. Interestingly, the 2 catalogs don't mention autographed versions of any of the cards, but I think another poster in this forum some years ago (or perhaps it was another forum??) hypothesized that a small number of autographed versions were given out to company executives. Folks at Kenwood Mall that received that version of the Bench card (same image I believe, but different logo) may have also gotten them autographed. Gotta wonder if any other Reds players could eventually surface in these issues!
