I need some help approximating the value of a 1932 Sanella Babe Ruth. I just don't want to get burned on this one. Any thoughts?

my thoughts are that they are pretty common. but i think condition always plays into the value and you made no mention of the condition. quick ebay complete yields....http://completed.shop.ebay.com/items/__1932-Sanella-Babe-Ruth_W0QQLHQ5fCompleteZ1QQ_dmptZUSQ5fSMQ5fSportsQ5 fCardsQQ_flnZ1QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em283

Well first of all it depends on the type...there are 4 different types graded, however types 1 and 4 are the same card, no different. Then you have type two, and type 3, type 3 being the rarest, then I believe type two is second rarest, followed by types 1/4.

I picked my type two up for $30 about 3 or 4 years ago, in NMT/MT condition, going to send it in for grading next week. What I can tell you is that these cards values are back up on the rise. They used to sell for $1000-$2000 in the mid to late 90's and they are starting to climb back up, but not to that value yet.

They are easy enough to find, even in high grade, that if you aren't sure you can wait and pick up another one in the future.

I owned one and think they're nice cards, worth picking one up. Better looking than some of the far more expensive Ruths.

20 years ago they easily sold for $1500+,..... now they are worth $50-$75 if your lucky.

eBay brought as ton of them out of Germany, and they are by far the most common Ruth card out there. Ive owned about 30 of them over the last 10 years, and still have a few complete sets in book form too. The price guides cant keep up with the value drop on these cards.

The only card that brings good money is the one with the Astra back

Rob, if you have not already seen it, you may want to take a look at the short article on the Sanella set that we ran in our November 2008 eNewsletter. It's at http://www.oldcardboard.com/eNews/2008/enews55/eNews55.htm.
