Thanks Ben. Glad to have it and hope to one day have the funds to get them all complete. About halfway there...

I bought the 1956 Mantle on Page 1 of this circular. It's in rough shape and probably will get a PSA Fair, but it is a White Back. Glad I didn't just pass it by, and will happily add it to my set.

Picked up these in the SACO River Auction: 1958 Topps
https://auctions.sacoriverauction.ne...ventoryid=5580

1969 Topps Yellow Letter (upgrade):
https://auctions.sacoriverauction.ne...ventoryid=5606

To be sent into PSA for Mechanical Error: Wrong set, wrong coin number

1958 Topps All-Star: Reasonable centering and few print defects, with excellent registration? A unicorn for this card. Dean's thinks it's an EX, I'm hoping for EX-MT or even the + for centering.

Another sharp "EX" example from Deans. Glad nobody else looks at their cards. ;-)

I think even the centering mavens might approve this one.

That's a beautiful card, Pete.

I wish, like the old Becketts did, PSA and SGC would also post the reasons why cards only got the grade they did.

From the scan, which I know doesn't tell the whole story, that card looks much nicer that a 7, imo.

Peter,

That is a gorgeous 1960 Mick. Very rare centering for the card.

John,

Great example of the '58 All Star— one of the prettiest Mick cards for sure, and pretty hard to find with such clean background printing and sharp focus. Congrats.

Finally fell in love with a 1962 Mick— the '62 has always held the same mystique for me as the '57, in terms of how challenging it is to find a strong example. Never been happier with a card purchase; this is the best '62 Mick I've seen aside from the lone PSA 10. It has a top right mild corner touch but should still have been an 8.5 all day, with such pristine edges (any edge wear really shows on the '62). Yet certainly no complaints buying it in the 8 holder. So many of the high grade Micks would never get those same Mint 9s with today's standards.

Thx, Pete. Gorgeous Red Heart. The smiling image and that colorful background make that one classic baseball card.

And that example looks way more like an 8-9 from here!

I looked quite a while for one with good centering, no slight registration shift resulting in a white line along the neck and blurring in the lettering on the cap, and no print lines. As for the grade, I have no clue, but I'm fine with it as it was much cheaper than an 8 would have been.

That was what struck me I realize, that registration is really rare for that card. That example pops as a result. Tough card to shop for btw the usual centering and registration shift problems.

Default Mick

I've been more of a seller than a buyer of Mick lately (needed to diversify)... but picked this up from a friend who bought this from the guy who got it out of a pack as a kid... one of my favorite Mickey images, so confident!

Default beautiful Micks

Wow! I really don't know where to begin.

Matt that is a stellar 62. Those borders are so tough. The 56 is a show-stopper man. It looks screaming white. You see so many of those where the boarders are faded or yellowish. You forget what a pack-fresh one would have looked like. You have it sir.

Pete, that Red Heart is probably my favorite Mick. That card just looks like the 50s. Great pick up.

I just mailed off another 8 Mantle coins (two others were Harry Lord's own P2 Sweet Caporal pins) and 13 more Mantle cards to PSA. Those join the 17 cards in Bobby's bulk submission about to pop, and 21 cards I sent in July.

Sidenote: I printed up the coin submission form using the online system on Aug 23, and finalized the card submission at lunch. Since then, 1650 new PSA submissions were generated through their online submission form auto-incrementing. So people are cramming a bunch of order in this week to get their $7/card bulk submissions in before they go up tomorrow. Should still get them back in time for Christmas.

I own a 1964 Mantle. His arms look massive in the photo. Is there a better card that displays Mantles pythons?

My July bulk submissions (received just prior to National) just popped early and had these in it. A couple are doubles (the PSA 7 Blast and PSA 7 1961 Team, I think). Will have to figure out why two got factory miscuts. They looked fine to me. Will have to resubmit the 1968. Was very iffy on cracking the slab on that one, but YOLO.

Hi everyone
First post here! Bought this on eBay the other day. Love the image and size of the card. Does anyone know what his first card was?

Nice pickup. His 1951 Bowman is considered his first card... there is also the 1950 Dairy Lea reflector which is one of his earliest, but it's not a card.

The thought on this Wheaties premium is that it was actually produced in 1952, but as you can see it still gets marked as 1951. It's from a series that Wheaties was testing out to see if they wanted to use these to promote their brand, but ultimately they decided against using Mickey (or maybe Mickey said you can't use my image).

Brian, I thought the consensus was actually 1953?

If these haven't shipped yet, you may want to call them and get the Bazooka in an authentic holder? I have called them once grades pop to make that request and they are always willing to accommodate (I usually indicate that authentic is fine on the forms so it's just a point of clarifying).

The N0 is holdered as Authentic. It confused me at first because it's an N-code, but it means they holdered it as Authentic. I could have had them holder the 1961 AS and the 1962 Switch Hitter, but I'd rather get them back raw and resubmit next time. They don't charge for the "factory miscut" determination, or the MINSIZ, so that's three that have to get sent back another time.
Here are the two they listed as miscut:

Weird sales on this card. A 6 sells for $200 May of 2017, another sells for $245 in April. Then a month ago, PWCC auctions a 9 which only achieves $102. PWCC listing doesn't mention Mickey Mantle in title or text. Heck of a steal for the winner of that one.
I put in a placeholder bid to keep it on my eBay homepage, but would have bid much higher if I didn't already have one at PSA (it got an 8). PWCC really screwed the pooch by not listing "Mantle," but I've heard the consignor gets to see drafts of the listings and confirm what they look like.

That April PSA 6 was mine.... I see that PSA 9 in PWCC, that's crazy if someone really got it that cheap!!

BTW, I know you're working on the Mantle Master Registry, I used to be #4 in both the Mantle Master and Mantle Topps Master, but I have sold off a lot of my collection to venture into prewar. I still have quite a few tough items (some of the tattoos, Bazooka cuts, the rare team photos, etc... plus I'm auctioning the rest of my VZs in LOTG, which includes my 68VZ which is tougher to find than the 59VZ) if you're ever interested, most are listed under eBay user robecsportscards, so let me know if there are any you want to try and work a deal on.

I've been quite impressed with the raw finds you have then submitted!!! Well done!!

Default Mantle run

Since we are talking Mantle’s here is my updated run of Mantle cards to date. Recent pickups have been the 1957 at the Natty and the 58 was pre Natty - used the funds early but it was too nice to pass up. Thinking of subbing the 57 and 58 after several commented that they look like they are in the wrong holders.

First photo is of my initial run of Mantles which I was going to do in PSA 8 and higher post 1953, but when I started finding nicely centered lower graded cards and much cheaper I went that route.

This is my current run of Mantle cards.

Better scans of the new additions.

Enjoy.

KC

Centered Mantles look great in any grade. I often prefer lower grade centered examples as well, especially considering the money you save compared to an 8 that may not be centered as well.
